The coronavirus has transformed nearly every aspect of daily life, but Times journalists are here to keep you informed and connected from home. Below is a selection of our live events this week (all times are Eastern). You can find the full calendar here.
Wednesday at 9 p.m. on Zoom
A Moment of Calm
Jewel has always been a social-distancing queen. The yodeling surfer girl of the ’90s pop scene grew up in the Alaska wilderness, on an 800-acre homestead miles from the nearest town. And Jewel, a four-time Grammy nominee, knows a thing or two about coping with jarring circumstances: In the span of just a few years in the mid-’90s, she went from living in her van and singing in coffee shops to releasing a mega-platinum album, selling out concerts and gracing the cover of Rolling Stone.
Her voice — by turns “a sultry alto, a clear soprano, a country whoop, a little-girl whisper or a speedy yodel” — her “lucid and articulate” lyrics and her “giggly, good-natured stage presence” endeared her to The New York Times’s pop music critic Jon Pareles. “She can spin out metaphors, tell unadorned stories or come up with choruses like ‘I’m sensitive and I’d like to stay that way,’” he wrote in 1996.
Now decades into an enormously successful career as a musician, actress and writer, Jewel has also become an advocate for mental health. She wrote about her own struggles in her 2015 memoir, “Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half the Story,” and is a founder of the Never Broken initiative, which provides people struggling with anxiety with a road map to a happier, healthier and more resilient life.
This week, she joins Joanna Nikas, a writer and editor for The Times’s Styles section, for a candid conversation about caring for yourself. She will share personal stories, lead a guided meditation and perform music from her forthcoming album. You can R.S.V.P. for the event here.
We have many more virtual events this week, including calls with our DealBook team to answer your questions about how the business world is responding to the coronavirus pandemic and Corner Office conversations with business leaders about how they’re navigating the crisis. Here’s what else is happening.

Covering Covid in China, From Afar
As it slowly restarts its economy, China is venturing into uncharted territory, and its path forward could provide valuable lessons for the rest of the world about what post-coronavirus life looks like. But under intense global scrutiny, the Chinese government has cracked down on those covering the story: In March, it expelled journalists from many U.S. outlets — including The New York Times. Join Steven Lee Myers, The Times’s Beijing bureau chief; and Edward Wong, diplomatic correspondent, as they discuss the challenges of reporting on China from beyond its borders.

Is There a Drug That Can Stop the Coronavirus?
As the battle against Covid-19 rages on, research teams around the world are scrambling to screen thousands of drugs, including experimental antivirals, allergy medication and hormone treatments, to see if they have any potential to fight the coronavirus. Lauren Christensen, senior staff editor of Books, is joined by Carl Zimmer, a Times columnist and the author of 13 books, including “A Planet of Viruses,” to talk about the hunt for a cure, some of it in unlikely places.

Wellness in Place With Tabitha Brown
Tabitha Brown wears many hats: actress, TikTok sensation, “America’s Mom” and hype woman for the smoky TTLA — a soul-igniting vegan twist on a BLT made with tempeh bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, vegan garlic aioli and an apparently life-changing pickle. She joins our reporter Sandra E. Garcia to talk about how to be kind to yourself in quarantine and to share one of her favorite vegan recipes.

Taking Vows Amid the Virus
Big gatherings of families and friends, cocktail hours and toasts, trays of communal hors d’oeuvres and hand-fed cake: Many of the traditional rituals of an American wedding could go in a PSA for what not to do when social distancing. But while many couples have chosen to postpone their ceremonies, others are finding new ways to safely celebrate their marriage even during a pandemic. Priya Parker, author of “The Art of Gathering” and host of The Times’s new “Together Apart” podcast, talks to guests about love in the time of coronavirus.

‘This Is Good’
There’s a tradition in the Times newsroom, a journalism nerd book club of sorts. Its members pick a piece of outstanding work from another outlet and gather to talk about what makes it so great. Now this group — hosted by Jason Stallman, a longtime Times editor, and including Vanessa Friedman, fashion director and chief fashion critic; Azam Ahmed, bureau chief for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean; Pui-Wing Tam, deputy business editor; Michael S. Schmidt, Washington correspondent; and Sam Dolnick, assistant managing editor — invites Times readers into their discussion of the things they wish they wrote. First up: an Outside magazine piece by Eva Holland about a couple in rural Alaska who faced an extraordinary life-or-death choice.

In Case You Missed It
Dr. Steven J. Corwin, the president and chief executive officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, talked to David Gelles, The Times’s Corner Office columnist, about leading in a crisis.
The comedian and activist Eddie Izzard went for a run with Talya Minsberg, an assistant sports editor at The Times.
And Jon Caramanica, The Times’s pop music critic; Joanna Nikas, a writer and editor for The Times’s Styles section; and Nicolas Heller, better known as New York Nico, were joined by some very special guests to investigate what makes New York sound like New York.
