Re “How do we repair the police-public rift?” (Question of the Week, June 2):
The cop who suffocated George Floyd is guilty of murder, plain and simple. How can the rest of us avoid injury or death at the hands of police? Cooperate.Whatever injustice you believe the police are committing, no matter what the color of your skin, anyone who chooses to give attitude, fight with or resist arrest by law enforcement is unlikely to prevail.
With few exceptions, the common denominator in the great majority of people killed by police has everything to do with a crime or infraction having been committed, resisting arrest, aggressive behavior toward or impeding the police.
To believe skin color is the predominant reason is a self-serving bias or political motivation.

Voting by mail
Re “Trump and mail-in voting” (Letters, June 5):
Letter writer Audrey M. Stepp expressed concern about “Donald Trump’s determination to stop voting by mail,” pointing out that she and many elderly and disabled people depend on voting by mail. I’d like to put her mind to rest.
President Trump never said he wanted to eliminate voting by mail. What he is opposing is only the effort to make it mandatory that all voting be done by mail.
That takes away the right of people to be able to vote in person at the polls, as has always been the established procedure and which I, for one, want to maintain. Voting by mail is convenient, but has in fact been shown to be rife for fraudulent voting. Therefore, it should be an option, but should not be made mandatory for everyone.

Assembly Bill 398
Assembly Bill 398 will tax an already overburdened group of large companies in the state with an additional tax of $275 per employee to “help rectify the shortfall from the pandemic.”
What can they be thinking? Time to oust these greedy politicians wgi only know how to spend our tax dollars, fritter the dollars away on many inane projects and then demand more.
Remember folks that all these taxes wind up in increased prices for all goods produced by these same large companies. Is it any wonder that they are still relocating in other states?
