Spotify is currently experiencing an outage affecting song playback. The problems first started around 8AM ET and are currently preventing a large number of Spotify users from playing songs properly. Songs will play only for a few seconds before they pause and the Spotify client displays the error “can’t play the current song.” Spotify says it’s “aware of some issues right now and are checking them out.”
If you’ve synced songs to your Android or iOS device, these offline playlists and albums will still work fine. Any recently played songs should also play back as they could be cached within the Spotify mobile and desktop clients.
We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out! We’ll keep you posted.

It’s unusual for Spotify to suffer from outages. The music streaming service last experienced issues during a broader Facebook iOS SDK problem in July that meant the app crashed upon startup. We’ve reached out to Spotify to comment further on today’s outage, and we’ll update you accordingly.
Update, August 19th 08:50AM ET: Updated with comment from Spotify.
