DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's tennis head coach Jamie Ashworth announced the signing of Ellie Coleman and Emma Jackson Monday, who will join the Blue Devils for the 2021-22 season.
Coleman comes to Durham tabbed eighth in the country for the 2021 high school graduating class per the Tennis Recruiting Network and hails from Midland, Mich., where she's enrolled online at Laurel Springs School.
Currently, Coleman owns a Junior ITF (International Tennis Federation) ranking of 38 and has seen great success on the international circuit. Most recently, Coleman reached the semifinals in doubles action at the 2020 Australian Open Junior Championship and won her first-round match in singles. She also competed at the 2019 U.S. Open Junior Championships last fall and for Team USA at the 2019 Junior Fed Cup qualifying rounds.
"I am extremely excited to officially be a Blue Devil and to have the opportunity to play for Duke women's tennis," Coleman said. "I can't wait to get to Durham and start my tennis and academic career at Duke and be part of the Blue Devil family."
A product of La Grange Park, Ill., Jackson is also enrolled online at Laurel Springs School and is currently ranks No. 17 for the 2021 high school graduating class.
Most recently in 2019, Jackson traveled to Costa Rica, Colombia and Ecuador to compete in Grade I ITF events, where she won the doubles event in Colombia and reached the quarterfinals of the singles draw. While in Ecuador, Jackson reached the finals of the singles event. In the same year, she traveled to California to compete in the Easter Bowl and Carson Grade I ITF events where she advanced to the quarterfinals in both singles competitions.
In 2018, Jackson played on the National Junior USA Team and also qualified for the U.S. Open Junior Championships.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected her last year of junior tennis, but she finished with a career high of No. 84 in junior ITF rankings.
"I am beyond excited to be alongside a team full of talent and to work with the amazing coaches," Jackson said. "Together, we will accomplish great things."
