With the Vegas Golden Knights coaching staff self-isolating "out of an abundance of caution," general manager Kelly McCrimmon was behind the bench for the team's 5-4 shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

"It's not a case where the entire staff tested positive,'' said McCrimmon, who did confirm that a Golden Knights coach had a positive COVID-19 test. "Most didn't, frankly. ... We're fortunate there's been no positive tests for players.''

Vegas' staff is comprises head coach Peter DeBoer, assistants Steve Spott, Ryan Craig and Ryan McGill, and goaltending coach Mike Rosati.

The league has yet to determine how long the staff must stay away from the team. Vegas and St. Louis close their two-game series at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday.

Along with McCrimmon, members of the Henderson Silver Knights coaching staff -- Vegas' AHL affiliate -- were also behind the bench Tuesday. They included head coach Manny Viveiros and assistants Jamie Heward and Joel Ward. The Silver Knights are in their first season as an AHL team; they are headquartered in a suburb of Las Vegas.

Tuesday marked the first time a Vegas player or coach missed a game this season because of the coronavirus. Four Golden Knights tested positive in November, and all recovered in time for the opener.

DeBoer conducted media availability, as normal, with reporters on Tuesday morning.

Vegas players said they didn't even know about the situation until they got to the arena.

"It was news to us when we arrived,'' said Alex Pietrangelo, who spent his first 12 seasons with the Blues and was facing them for the first time since signing with Vegas during the offseason. "Crimmer's coached before, we had the [coaches] from Henderson come up, they know what they're doing, too. So we didn't know what the plan was originally, but it worked out fine.''

McCrimmon previously coached the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings, including leading the team to a WHL championship in 2016.

The Golden Knights (5-1-1) lost for the second time in three games. McCrimmon said the team's practice facility will be shut down Wednesday.
