Jasmine Akins and Sarah Hendrick have punched their tickets to represent Kennesaw State at the finals of the 2022 NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Akins will compete in the long jump while Hendrick will race in the 800m.

LAST TEAM OUTDOOR MEET
13 athletes from the Kennesaw State track and field program competed at the NCAA Championships East Preliminary Rounds in 10 events from May 25-28.
 
NEWS AND NOTES
Akins will compete for the Owls in the finals of the long jump on June 9. Akins qualified for the NCAA Championships with a mark of 6.27m (20'7") at the KSU Invitational. She reached the finals after she landed a leap of 6.08m (19'11.5") at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships to finish 12th. She will be joined in Oregon by Liberty's Ayanna Johnson. They will be the first two women to ever represent the ASUN Conference in the women's long jump final at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Savannah, Ga. native has competed five times this season collecting two wins and a runner-up finish.
 
Hendrick will compete in the semifinals of the 800m on June 9. She will need to finish in the top eight to advance to Saturday's final. She ran a time of 2:04.20 in the preliminary round and 2:02.16 to win in the quarterfinals of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships. The Kennesaw native was undefeated in the 800m and 1500m during the regular season and conference championships. She won the 800m in a time of 2:00.98 to set the school record and qualify for the U.S. Championships at the Kennesaw State Invitational. She was victorious in the 800m in a time of 2:06.03 and the 1500m in a time of 4:24.62 at the ASUN Championship and was named ASUN Most Valuable Performer and ASUN Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer for her achievements at the conference championships.
 
With a win, Akins and Hendrick could become KSU's second and third national champions in the program's Division I era, joining Daniel Haugh.
