CEDAR RAPIDS — Here’s a look at area Iowans in the minors and major leagues. These are players in affiliated professional baseball from Eastern Iowa and the University of Iowa.
We’ve got three guys in the big leagues right now in pitchers A.J. Puk, Mitch Keller and Colin Rea.
Puk is a Cedar Rapids Washington grad who is a reliever for the Miami Marlins. Keller is a Cedar Rapids Xavier grad who is a starter for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Rea is a Cascade grad who recently was called up from Triple-A and place into the starting rotation for the Milwaukee Brewers.
This list does not include guys who are in extended spring training right now. The statistics are through Friday.
Nick Allgeyer (Iowa/Philadelphia Phillies) — Pitcher is with Lehigh Valley of the International League, the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies and has made three starts, with an 0-1 record and 6.75 earned run average. Has struck out 11 in eight innings.
Tyler Cropley (Iowa/Kansas City Royals) — The catcher continues to be on the development list for Double-A Northwest Arkansas of the Texas League and has not played a game yet this season.
Duncan Davitt (Iowa/Tampa Bay Rays) — Pitcher has gotten into four games as a reliever, has no record and a 4.76 ERA for low-Class A Charleston of the Carolina League. Has allowed just two hits and struck out six in 6 1/3 innings.
Matt Dermody (Norwalk/Iowa/Boston Red Sox) — In his 11th season of pro ball, the lefty pitcher is 1-0 with a 4.80 ERA with Triple-A Worcester of the International League. Has appeared in three games, with two starts. Has 14 strikeouts and 14 hits allowed in 15 innings.
Jack Dreyer (Johnston/Iowa/Los Angeles Dodgers) — It has been four bullpen outings with high-Class A Great Lakes of the Midwest League. Has a 1.59 ERA, allowing three hits in 5 2/3 innings, with eight walks and 10 strikeouts.
Nick Gallagher (Iowa City West/Iowa/Chicago White Sox) — Has no record and a 5.63 ERA in six relief stints for Double-A Birmingham of the Southern League. Has allowed five hits and five walks with 12 strikeouts in eight innings of work.
Drew Irvine (Waukee/Iowa/Pittsburgh Pirates) — Right-hander has thrown four times in relief for high-A Greensboro of the South Atlantic League. Has no record and a 16.20 ERA, allowing five hits and seven walks in 3 1/3 innings, with three strikeouts.
Mitch Keller (Cedar Rapids Xavier/Pittsburgh Pirates) — Six innings, four hits and a pair runs allowed in a start earlier this week against the Cincinnati Reds. It resulted in a victory for the righty pitcher, improving his season record to 2-0 and his ERA to 3.64. Has allowed just 21 hits in 25 innings and has recorded 22 strikeouts.
Austin Krob (Lisbon/San Diego Padres) — Lefty pitcher has made a pair of starts for low-Class A Lake Elsinore of the California League. The former TCU hurler has given up two hits and seven walks in 5 2-3 innings, striking out 11.
Adam Mazur (Iowa/San Diego Padres) — A pair of starts at high-A Fort Wayne of the Midwest League thus far for the 2022 second-round draft pick. In six innings has given up six hits and a pair of walks, with five strikeouts.
Mason McCoy (Iowa/Seattle Mariners) — Infielder hitting .250 in 18 games for Triple-A Tacoma of the Pacific Coast League. That includes a home run and 11 RBIs. Also has walked 14 times.
Cole McDonald (New Hampton/Iowa/Houston Astros) — Three relief appearances, spanning 2 2/3 innings for high-A Asheville of the South Atlantic League. Hasn’t given up a run and has five Ks.
Ian Moller (Dubuque Wahlert/Texas Rangers) — A .250 batting average and RBI in eight games for low-A Down East of the Carolina League. The catcher graduated from Wahlert but never played high school baseball, concentrating on showcase circuits and all-star leagues.
Dylan Nedved (Iowa/San Diego Padres) — Pitcher is with low-A Lake Elsinore, where he has a save and 4.91 ERA in four relief outings. Has seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings for the low-A, California League club.
Ben Norman (Des Moines Roosevelt/Iowa/Chicago White Sox) — Outfielder played five games at high-A Winston-Salem of the South Atlantic League and recently earned a promotion to Double-A Birmingham, where he is 5-for-10 with a RBI and stolen base in four games.
A.J. Puk (Cedar Rapids Washington/Miami Marlins) — Lefty has become Miami’s closer. Has 1-0 record and three saves in seven appearances, with a 1.13 ERA. Has allowed six hits in eight innings, with a walk and eight strikeouts.
Colin Rea (Cascade/Milwaukee Brewers - Since being recalled from Triple-A, has made a pair of starts. Has given up seven hits in 10 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out eight. No record and 4.22 ERA.
Evan Reifert (Wilton/Tampa Bay Rays) — Pitcher continues to be on the seven-day injured list for Double-A Montgomery of the Southern League.
Levi Usher (Cedar Rapids Prairie/Kansas City Royals) — Outfielder is 5-for-18 in seven games for low-A Columbia of the Carolina League. Has a couple of RBIs and stolen bases.
Connor Van Scoyoc (Cedar Rapids Jefferson/Los Angeles Angels) — Right-handed pitcher has made two starts for high-A Tri-City of the Northwest League. Has allowed five hits and five walks in 10 innings, with eight strikeouts.
Trenton Wallace (Iowa/Toronto Blue Jays) — Another Northwest Leaguer, the left-hander has started twice for Vancouver and has a 1-1 record. Has given up just seven hits and two walks in 10 innings, with eight strikeouts.
Peyton Williams (Iowa/Toronto Blue Jays) — First baseman is hitting .116 in 12 games for low-A Dunedin of the Florida State League. Has four RBIs and struck out 16 times in 43 at-bats.
Keaton Winn (Pekin/San Francisco Giants) — Righty pitcher has made four appearances, two starts, for Triple-A Sacramento of the Pacific Coast League. Has a 6.57 ERA in 12 1/3 innings.
