Alabama Track and Field Qualifies 24 for NCAA Indoor Championships - University of Alabama Athletics - rolltide.com

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama track and field has qualified 24 student-athletes for the NCAA Indoor Championships which will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. March 11-13. The Crimson Tide's total includes 15 men and nine women who have eared championship berths.

This will be the first NCAA Indoor Championships since 2019 after last season's was canceled hours before the meet was set to begin due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tide women were seventh and the men were eighth at the 2019 championships, held in Birmingham, Ala.

"We've had a great indoor season to this point, with some really outstanding performances. After last year came to such an abrupt end, we're more than excited to have the opportunity to finish this season off on the national stage. I'm proud of the focus, drive and determination we've shown as a team. It should be an exciting meet and we're looking to finish things off strong."

The Crimson Tide Men

  • The SEC Champion and school record holder, Isaac Odugbesan is heading to the show in the shot put
  • The school record holder, Bobby Colantonio Jr. earned a spot in the weight throw after taking silver at the SEC Indoor Championships
  • Christian Edwards earned his spot in the triple jump after a silver-medal performance at the SEC Indoor Championships and is seeded third heading into the championships
  • Eliud Kipsang earned a slot in the mile after bettering the school record by more than three seconds earlier in the season
  • Champion Allison and Leander Forbes both punched their tickets in the 400-meters with times that rank the second and third all-time at UA, respectively
  • Jake Spotswood lowered the school record twice this season to earn a spot at the championships in the heptathlon
  • Allison, Forbes, Joshua St. Clair and Gabe Serrano combined to earn a slot in 4x400-meter relay
  • The distance medley relay (DMR) of Jace Jones, Serrano, Grady Shiflet and Kipsang are headed to the show
  • Jonathan Martin, Matthew Weaver, Mark Shannon and Mateo Barreto are headed to the NCAA Indoor meet as part of the Crimson Tide's relay contingent

The Crimson Tide Women

  • Tamara Clark is one of just seven women to qualify in both the 60 and 200-meters
  • Clark was second in the 200-meters at the SEC Indoor Championships and is seeded third heading into the NCAA Championships
  • Cherisse Murray earned her spot in the shot put after taking second at the SEC Indoor Championships
  • Mercy Chelangat, the 3,000-meters school record holder, earned berths in both the 3,000-meters and 5,000-meters
  • Chelengat earned a bronze medal in the 5,000-meters at the SEC Indoor Championships
  • Amaris Tyynismaa, who set the school record in the mile earlier this season, qualified for a spot in the 3,000-meters
  • Tyynismaa anchored the Tide's distance medley relay to gold and took silver in the 3,000-meters at the SEC Indoor Championships
  • The Crimson Tide is also sending the distance medley relay (DMR) of Jami Reed, Christal Mosley, Lauren Turner and Tyynismaa, which won the SEC Indoor title with a SEC Championships and Alabama school record
  • Sydney Milani and Sophie Spada are part of the Crimson Tide's relay contingent
