LA JOLLA, Calif. – After taking one-set leads twice in the Friday night's Big West Conference match, the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team finished the job, earning up a five-set road victory against UC San Diego (25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-13).

With the victory, CSUB improved to 18-9 on the year and the `Runners have an 11-8 Big West record with one match remaining in the regular season. The win against UCSD clinched at least a fourth-place finish in the league standings for CSUB, despite the preseason prediction that the `Runners would wind up ninth of eleven squads. A Bakersfield win against UC Irvine on Saturday and a Cal Poly (14-16, 12-7 BWC) loss against UCSD would mean a tie for third.

"We showed again a lot of resiliency," said Giovana Melo, Director of Volleyball for the `Runners, after Bakersfield's win. "Our team has been through a lot of adversity this season and today was no different. Grinding out every point. This team has a lot of heart!"

As always, Bakersfield received a well-rounded performance from its roster, but junior Hayley McCluskey posted one of her best stat lines of the season against the Tritons. The outside hitter tallied a team-high 19 kills on .286 hitting and McCluskey also chipped in eight digs in the road win. CSUB also outblocked UCSD 15-7 on Friday.

A pair of `Runner middle blockers in Brooke Boiseau and Hana Makonova continued their consistent efforts on Friday night. Boiseau, who hails from Scottsdale, Ariz., recorded 11 kills (.333 H%) to go with five blocks. A native of Sokolov, Czech Republic, Makonova posted a .394 hitting clip with 14 kills against the UCSD.

Bakersfield's floor general, Seleisa Elisaia, continued running the CSUB offense. The setter tallied her team-high 15th double-double of the season with 44 assists and 14 digs on Friday. A trio of `Runner passers posted double-digit dig totals: Paige Calvin (13), Caroline Benke (12), and Anna Unke (11).

CSUB will head to Irvine and prepare to face the UCI Anteaters on Saturday, Nov. 27. First serve at the Bren Events Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. (PT) and Saturday's contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.
