SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Norwich University men's ice hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie with Skidmore College on Friday night in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action at the Saratoga Springs Ice Arena.

Norwich (2-0-2, 1-0-2 NEHC) surrendered a goal in the final minute with an extra skater on the ice for Skidmore as the Thoroughbreds rallied from a 4-2 deficit to tie the Cadets late.

The overtime game was Norwich's fourth in the last five games (one exhibition) to start the season. 

Sophomore Patrick O'Neal (Indiana, Pa.) scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Norwich offense. Senior Brett Ouderkirk (Monkland, Ontario), freshman Clark Kerner (Kansas City, Kan.) and junior Philip Elgstam (Stockholm, Sweden) all scored goals for the Cadets. 

Norwich scored first at the 8:57 mark with O'Neal scoring on the power play off assists from Logan vande Meerakker (Dieppe, New Brunswick) and Jason Galotti (Hanover, Mass.).

Skidmore (1-1-1, 0-0-1 NEHC) scored twice less than a minute apart to take a 2-1 lead with goals by Reid Russell and Zach Frisk.

The Cadets rallied to score two straight of their own just 43 seconds apart before the end of the first period by Ouderkirk and Kerner to take a 3-2 into the first intermission.

Elgstam added to Norwich's lead at the 4:52 mark of the second period off assists from O'Neal and Holden Doggett (Oakville, Ontario).

Skidmore scored just 28 seconds into the third period and then scored with 28 seconds left in regulation to rally to tie the game up at 4-4. Mason Beecher and Everett Wardle scored the Thoroughbreds' goals. 

Norwich will continue its road trip on Saturday at 4 p.m. when it takes on Castleton University at Spartan Arena in Rutland.
