For a second-straight week, Western Carolina head football coach Kerwin Bell today was able to reflect on his squad's on-field progress coming off a dominant 41-21 road win at Wofford last Saturday in Spartanburg, S.C., before quickly turning his attention to a third-straight Palmetto State foe – chromatic rival, Furman, which invades Cullowhee this Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2:00 p.m.

For a second-consecutive week, the Catamounts found themselves with some plaudits from the league office following last week's road win at Wofford. Returning to the lineup after missing two-plus games due to an injury suffered at Chattanooga, quarterback Rogan Wells garnered SoCon Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday after accounting for 357 yards and five touchdowns including four TD passes and 309 yards, and a team-best 48 rushing yards with a 32-yard scoring run. Wells made it back-to-back weeks for WCU as Carlos Davis collected the weekly hardware after guiding the Catamounts to their first win of the season at The Citadel.

Redshirt sophomore placekicker Richard McCollum also collected weekly honors from the conference office this week as the SoCon's Special Teams Player of the Week, nailing field goals of 23 and 37 yards to remain perfect on the season – 10-for-10 – and all five PAT attempts, stretching his active streak to 40-straight successful tries.

Also on Monday, redshirt freshman WR Raphael Williams was an honorable mention by Stats Perform on its FCS national weekly offensive award after breaking the school single-game record with 16 catches last Saturday in Spartanburg, his third game with double-digit catches this season. Two of Williams' receptions went for touchdowns, amassing 177 receiving yards for his fourth, 100+ yard receiving game this season.

Winners of two-straight, Western Carolina (2-6, 2-3 SoCon) hosts Furman (4-4, 2-3 SoCon) at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field in Cullowhee with kickoff at 2:00 p.m. The Catamounts, who play their next two games at home, have a chance to return to .500 in league play and earn a third SoCon victory for the first time since the 2017 season. The Paladins look to avoid a three-game slide after a home loss to No. 14 ETSU (17-13) and last week at Chattanooga (13-3). Furman dropped three games to end the spring 2020 season, finishing the abbreviated conference year 3-4 that included a 35-7 victory over the Catamounts in late February.

Tickets for Saturday's "Heroes Day" game are on sale now through the WCU Athletics Ticket Office on the first floor of the Ramsey Center, by phone at (828) 227-2401, and online at CatamountSports.com. Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN3 (cable subscription required) with live audio provided by the Catamount Sports Network with airtime of 1:00 p.m.
