Freshman Richard Estrella (78) and sophomore Shiloh Ta'ase (51) are part of a rugged offensive line that led the Vikings to 428 yards and 30 points against one of the best defenses in the league (307.0 ypg, 21.0 ppg).

Portland State began its challenging November in the best possible way on Saturday by knocking off a nationally-ranked football team on the road. The Vikings beat #24 Weber State, 30-18, in Ogden as they continue to play well in all facets of the game.
The Vikings have now won three straight and are striving to make this a November to remember. Standing in their way are two more nationally-ranked opponents: #16 Sacramento State (7-2, 6-0) on the road this Saturday and #5 Eastern Washington (7-2, 4-2) at home on Nov. 20. The win at Weber State was no small feat as the Wildcats have won or shared each of the last four Big Sky Conference Championships.
Portland State is now at 5-4 on the season, 4-2 in the Big Sky Conference, so who knows…? Currently tied for fourth in the 13-team Big Sky Conference, the Vikings are still in the FCS playoff hunt. It will take two more performances like the one they put on the field at Stewart Stadium in Ogden for a chance to extend their season.
PSU's remaining schedule

Nov. 20, vs. Eastern Washington, 2 p.m.

NOTEWORTHY FROM ONE THE BIG SKY'S HOTTEST TEAMS
- Portland State's defense has been stronger than battery acid. In the Vikings' five wins this season, they have allowed 7, 13, 10, 21, and 18 points – an average of less than two touchdowns per game. They have given up just 278.4 yards per game in those wins… in the past two games, the Vikings have held their opponents to 5-24 conversions on third down.
- On offense, the Vikings have found the balance they seek. In the last five games, four of which are wins, the Vikings have averaged 160.0 rushing yards and 252.6 passing yards per game. PSU had 299 yards passing and 428 total yards against a Weber State defense that was allowing only 164.1 yards passing (best in the Big Sky) and 307.0 total yards going into the game.
THE STARS ARE OUT FOR THE VIKINGS
- All-American JR CB Anthony Adams had a career-high 11 tackles, two tackles for loss and a pass breakup in win over Weber State. Adams has 42 tackles, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries this season. He now has 29 career breakups and 12 career takeaways. His 29 PBUs ranks third all-time at PSU.
- JR DE VJ Malo continues to terrorize opposing quarterbacks. He had another quarterback sack at Weber State, giving him a Big Sky Conference-best 10.5 on the season. He has 18.5 tackles for loss (2nd in the Big Sky) and three forced fumbles this season and should be a top candidate for Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
- JR CB Xavier Bell, a transfer from Arizona, is quietly turning in an excellent season. Bell has started all nine games at the SAM position, compiling 38 tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, an interception and a team-best six pass breakups. He had four tackles, a sack and two pass breakups at Weber State.
- SR QB Davis Alexander is putting up legendary numbers. He had another big game at Weber State completing 29-42 passes for 299 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. Alexander also ran for a touchdown in the game. With 299 passing yards in the game, he now has 8,645 passing yards in his career and has moved into second all-time at PSU trailing only Neil Lomax (13,220). With a 25th career rushing touchdown, Alexander moved up to seventh all-time in Portland State history in that category. Alexander has 2,505 passing yards and 17 touchdowns this season (as well as six rushing TDs). He is responsible for 84 career touchdowns and might be one of the most overlooked stars in the Big Sky the past couple of seasons.
- FR WR Nate Bennett grabbed a season-high nine passes and now has 44 receptions this season. He is on the Jerry Rice Award Watch List for top freshman in the nation at the FCS level… Bennett's running mates also had big games. FR WR Darien Chase had five catches for 79 yards and a touchdown. JR WR Beau Kelly made five grabs for 46 yards. JR WR Mataio Talalemotu had four receptions for 69 yards… Kelly leads the team and the Big Sky Conference with 59 receptions and eight receiving touchdowns this season. He ranks third in receiving yards (787).
- SR RB Malik Walker is playing as well as any Viking right now. He rushed 15 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns at Weber State. His 39-yard scamper for a score in the fourth quarter iced the game for the Vikings at 30-18… Walker, the Big Sky Conference co-Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 30, has 506 yards and six touchdowns in the last five games. For the season, he has 792 yards and nine touchdowns.
BUILT TO LAST
- The Vikings start six freshmen, have eight making major contributions, and have played 23 freshmen this season. Top freshmen so far, include: WR Nate Bennett (9 starts, 44 receptions, 574 yards, 4 TD); LB Parker McKenna (9 starts, team-high 73 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 1 FR); OLs Richard Estrella (9 starts) and D'Angalo Titiali'i (5 starts); WR Darien Chase (6 starts, 36 receptions, 435 yards, 2 TD); LB Justice Pagan (4 starts, 32 tackles, 6 TFLs, 2 SKs, 2 PBUs); DB Tyreese Shakir (6 starts, 25 tackles, 1 SK, 2 INT, 2 FRs, 4 PBUs, 1 TD); K Gianni Smith (5-7 FGs, 23-23 PAT)
