Women's Squash Wins Pennsylvania Championship With Sweep of No 17 Dickinson - Drexel Dragons

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 6 Drexel University women's squash team finished a busy opening weekend, winning the Pennsylvania State Squash Championship with a 9-0 victory against No. 17 Dickinson at the Kline and Specter Squash Center on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Dragons earned the trophy by going undefeated against the four other varsity collegiate squash programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, also downing Chatham, Franklin & Marshall, and Penn during the weekend. It is the first time Drexel has won the title that has been competed annually since 2017.
 
Getting the day started for the DU, Katerina Cummings made quick work of her opponent in the eighth spot with an 11-3, 11-1, 11-3 victory. Soon after, Lydia Robinson took an 11-1, 11-3, 11-1 win at number six.
 
Finishing off the matches in the opening rotation, Noa Romero fought off a tough third game challenge to win 11-6, 11-1, 12-10 at number four and Alina Bushma won in the second spot, claiming an 11-5, 11-5, 11-1 result.
 
With her win at number seven, Lara Varma clinched the match and the championship for Drexel, picking up an 11-4, 11-0, 11-7 win. Helping to round out the sweep, Brooke Herring won 11-2, 11-2, 11-4 at number five. In the ninth position, Hatti Specter won 11-6, 11-2, 11-2. In the final two matches, Margot Prow won 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 at number three and Karina Tyma topped her opponent 11-5, 11-4, 11-2 in the first position.
 
Next up, the Dragons battle No. 12 Williams on Saturday, November 20 at the Kline and Specter Squash Center. Match time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
