Mile High United Way’s Volunteer Connection: Connecting people and strengthening communities through volunteer engagement. Below are opportunities available in our communities. (The need for volunteers is way down while needs for donations have skyrocketed during the coronavirus outbreak, so a majority of these listings have shifted toward desired donations.)

Bridge House needs: socks, cleaning supplies (lysol, foam shower cleaner etc.) and hand soap for people experiencing homelessness. Programs have been expanded during this time, so the need is greater than ever. For more information email Scott@BoulderBridgeHouse.org.

H.O.P.E. Homeless Outreach is in need of lunch bags, small and large surgical gloves, plastic forks and bottles of water, trial size shampoo and conditioner, large paper plates, disposable drinking cups, paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer. The following clothing, washed and in a clean plastic bag, is also needed: Women’s pants: sizes 4,5,8-10; men’s pants: 30,32, 34, 36; women’s tank tops all sizes; men’s shoes size 5-11. Monetary donations are welcome. Services include showers, internet, meals, a place to rest and resources. Restaurants are also sought for daytime meals for up to 25 people. Harvest of Hope Food Pantry has switched to a “carhop” service and is offering curbside delivery. Our most needed food items are ready-to-eat soup, peanut butter, canned pasta meals, canned chili and boxes of healthy snack bars. Find out more about hosting a food drive at hopepantry.org/fooddrive. Donations are accepted between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at 2960 Valmont Road in Boulder. Ring the bell at the back of the door and donations will be handled. If you are not in one of the high-risk groups, consider volunteering: hopepantry.org/volunteer. Volunteers work in small groups, packing bags, stocking, weighing donations, and helping with other tasks. Donations can also be made at: hopepantry.org/donate.

Cultivate: Gifts will directly support the increased capacity and additional sanitation measures for the Carry-Out Caravan grocery delivery program in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. Visit cultivate.ngo/relief to make a donation.

Sister Carmen Community Center has a need for general ongoing food bank volunteers to fill food boxes, sort food and produce, check dates, put away deliveries, etc. It is a weekly commitment of a 2.5-hour shift. Needed are traffic assistants to assist with traffic flow during peak holiday food bank drive-up hours. These people will be outdoors, standing and directing cars in and out of our parking lot. Also needed are holiday bag/box packers to prep and fill holiday bag/boxes for distribution. Training is provided for available positions. Shifts are available Monday – Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Dec. 7-22. The group has also asked residents to consider hosting a family or neighborhood food drive, and giving on Colorado Gives Day, Dec. 8. Email ann@sistercarmen.org. Broomfield FISH A grocery store donation box is available at King Soopers on 120th and Sheridan, Hwy. 287​ or 136th and Zuni and at Safeway on 144th and Lowell as well as Sprouts on 120th and Sheridan. Top needs are cereal, oatmeal, mac n cheese, Spaghettios, canned meat and peanut butter. Boulder Shelter Most needed items at this time are sugar, coffee, hand sanitizer, masks, Tylenol/Advil/Aspirin, cough and cold medicine (alcohol free), laundry detergent, soap, travel-sized shampoo, body wash and lotion and vitamins. Things can be ordered online and delivered to Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, 4869 N. Broadway, Boulder, CO, 80304. Monetary donations are also accepted at www.bouldershelter.org or by mailing a check to the address above.

OUR Center is looking for food donations, especially protein items and toiletries, family and travel size, and adult disposable underwear. Cash donations can be made at www.ourcenter.org or mailed to 220 Collyer Street Longmont, CO, 80501. Contact Elaine at elaine@ourcenter.org for questions.

Attention Homes: Needs several in-kind supply donations to help with COVID relief efforts. Meals for delivery at Attention Home locations or drop off a nonperishables such as canned and dry goods. Also accepting stable fruit such as bananas, clementine’s, oranges and apples as well as paper products and cleaning supplies like Lysol wipes and hand sanitizer. Attention Homes is located at 1440 Pine Street, Suite A in Boulder. Drop off supplies from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the hallway with no contact. Emergency Family Assistance Association is seeking volunteers to help provide holiday gifts to families in need through its Holiday Gift Room. The Gift Room will run Dec. 14 – 19 and will operate in alignment with all CDC COVID-19 recommendations. All volunteer positions are designed to limit contact and communications between volunteers, staff and families/participants. Daily shifts available from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays as well as a Thursday shift from 4:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Visit www.efaa.org or contact sue@efaa.org.

TRU Thrift Shop earnings support compassionate end-of-life care, grief support, and education. The nonprofit thrift shop needs volunteers to sort donations in the following departments: clothing, electronics, furniture, household items, art, books, and linens. All donations are processed for quality, pricing and displaying. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by an adult and shifts are typically for four hours. Cake4Kids, a nonprofit that provides birthday cakes to at-risk and foster youth, has just launched a Boulder Area Chapter. The organization is over 10 years old and has delivered 20,000 cakes. Cake4Kids currently needs volunteer at home bakers. Volunteers should have good baking and decorating skills. No minimum volunteer commitment is required. Count Me In: The city’s new Shovel-a-Stop program is an effort to increase the number of bus stops cleared after each snow event. Clearing bus stops helps prevent slips and falls and increases safety and accessibility for bus riders of all ages and abilities. Virtual volunteer opportunities

Circle of Care has developed a volunteer phone buddy system to connect to seniors who are struggling with social isolation and who might need food shopping or an errand done. There would be no face-to-face contact to keep everyone safe. If people are interested email, email office@circleofcareproject.org.
