NEW YORK -- After straining his right knee in Sunday's 106-104 loss to the Charlotte Hornets, Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie is scheduled to be evaluated again Monday morning, coach Steve Nash said.
The Nets are scheduled to play their first back-to-back games of the season. After Sunday's game -- their first loss -- the Nets tip off against Memphis on Monday night. Dinwiddie's status against Memphis will be determined after he is evaluated.
Dinwiddie strained his knee in the third quarter Sunday. He drove against Bismack Biyombo and planted his right leg awkwardly. Dinwiddie was on the floor grabbing his right knee for several seconds before he limped to the sideline. He was evaluated on the Nets' bench for a few minutes before heading back to the locker room.
Kevin Durant said his status for Monday's game also has yet to be determined. Durant, who is coming off an Achilles injury, said that he would like to be available to play two days in a row.
"I definitely want to be able to play back-to-backs," Durant said after Sunday's game. "Get through 'em healthy and play my normal minutes, so we'll see. We will see how things go and we'll talk about it tomorrow."
Durant had 29 points, four assists and three rebounds in 36 minutes against the Hornets. After being down by 16 in the fourth quarter, Durant and Irving led the Nets on a run that closed the gap to two points. Durant had an opportunity to tie the score, but his jumper with 7.4 seconds left fell short.
"I thought it was going in," Durant said. "It looked good when it left my hands. I'm sure we'll get that situation back again throughout the season and I can capitalize on it again. It was good to play in a fourth-quarter game again. Play a game that we had to, you know, fight uphill and claw back to get back into the game."
Jeff Green also was injured in Charlotte, colliding with Biyombo's elbow. After he received stitches above his right eye, Green was available to return.
While Durant and Kyrie Irving garner much of the attention around the Nets, Dinwiddie has been a starter for Brooklyn in all three regular-season games. He is averaging 7.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists.
Dinwiddie, 27, was a key fixture for the Nets in the 2019-20 season. With Irving and Caris LeVert missing stretches of the season with shoulder and thumb injuries, respectively, Dinwiddie led Brooklyn's starting unit. After coming into the season expecting to be the Nets' sixth man, Dinwiddie started in 49 games and averaged 20.6 points.
The guard tested positive for COVID-19 in late June and did not join the Nets in the restart in Orlando, Florida.
"When Spencer is going, he can't be stopped," center Jarrett Allen said. "Even off the court, everyone loves having Spencer around. His energy, just his personality is great in the locker room. I don't know what's happening with him so whenever he's back -- he's a strong dude -- he'll try and come back as soon as possible."
