ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In its first action since Dec. 9, the No. 16-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team rolled to a decisive 92-49 victory over Wisconsin to open up Big Ten Conference play Thursday (Dec. 31) at Crisler Center.

U-M showed no signs of rust after having its two most recent games postponed due to COVID-19 protocols, as the Wolverines shot 51.5 percent (35-for-68) from the floor and dominated the boards, pulling down 50 rebounds compared to Wisconsin's 29. Michigan had 18 offensive rebounds that turned into 24 second-chance points for the Maize and Blue.

As a team, U-M forced 13 Badgers turnovers -- for 20 points -- and scored 50 of its 92 points in the paint.

Junior Naz Hillmon recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds, including six offensive boards, while junior Leigha Brown scored a team-high 26 points with three made three-pointers against the Badgers.

Junior Amy Dilk added 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Michigan, and senior Akienreh Johnson had 13 points with six rebounds and four assists on the afternoon.

Michigan and Wisconsin exchanged baskets for much of the first quarter until the Wolverines scored six straight points in less than a minute in the closing two minutes of the period to take a 23-10 advantage over the Badgers.

Hitting four of its final five shots allowed U-M to carry a 29-15 lead into the second quarter behind nine points from Hillmon and six from Hailey Brown.

The Wolverines continued to keep Wisconsin out of its offensive rhythm as UW missed its first five shots of the second quarter, while Michigan made four of its first five to extend its lead to 39-18 with just over six minutes to play in the first half.

The Maize and Blue suffered a lull in its offensive output in the final five minutes of the second quarter but managed to take a 48-27 advantage into the halftime break, using a quick 8-0 run with six points from Leigha Brown.

Michigan shot 51.4 percent (18-for-35) from the floor in the first half with 18 points from Hillmon and 13 from Leigha Brown. The Wolverines outrebounded Wisconsin, 23-17, with Hillmon pulling down five, including three offensive boards.

With 8:19 remaining in the third quarter, Leigha Brown drained a three-pointer off a Dilk assist to put the Wolverines up 55-27 and force a Wisconsin timeout. Coming out of the 30-second break, Michigan went on an 11-0 run, extending its lead to 66-29 with five minutes left in the third stanza.

Despite limited scoring in the final minutes of the third quarter, Michigan shot an impressive 61.1 percent (11-for-18) from the floor and took a 77-40 advantage into the final 10 minutes of the contest.

The Wolverines maintained a 30-point lead for the entire fourth quarter, capped off with back-to-back three-pointers in the closing minute from junior Emily Kiser, to earn the decisive win.

U-M will be back in action Sunday (Jan. 3), traveling to Northwestern for a top-20 showdown with the No. 15-ranked Wildcats in Evanston, Ill. The game is set for 4 p.m. CST and can be seen on ESPN2.
