MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The No. 3-ranked University Michigan women's gymnastics team placed second overall at the 2021 Big Ten Championships, scoring a 197.425 Saturday night (March 20) at Maturi Pavilion. Minnesota captured its sixth-ever title with a 197.600 in its home gym.

The Wolverines' performance was highlighted by a perfect 10.0 from Natalie Wojcik, who earned the Big Ten vault title, and Gabby Wilson, who shared the floor title with a 9.950. Wojcik is just the third Wolverine to earn a perfect 10.0 on vault at the Big Ten Championships, joining Beth Wymer in 1994 and Heather Kabnick in 1995.

Junior Abby Heiskell also had a standout day for the Maize and Blue, scoring her second straight 9.975 on the vault and earning matching 9.900s on the uneven bars and balance beam. Sophomore Sierra Brooks also scored a 9.900 on the uneven bars and notched a 39.325 to lead the Michigan all-around performers.

Michigan started the championships on the bars, posting a 49.800 to sit in second after one complete rotation. Wojcik led the Maize and Blue with a 9.925, and Heiskell and Brooks earned matching 9.900s. Moving to the beam, Heiskell earned her second 9.900 of the day to pace the Wolverines to a 49.350 in the second rotation, and Carly Bauman posted a 9.875 in her second event of the day.

Though U-M had a tough rotation on the floor exercise, Wilson earned a team-best 9.950 to share a piece of the title, and Bauman finished second for the Wolverines with a 9.875.

Michigan looked to make a heroic comeback in the final rotation of the night, with Reyna Guggino sticking her landing and earning a 9.950 and Heiskell following it up with a second straight stuck landing and her second straight 9.975 in as many weeks.

With two stuck landings to start the rotation, Wojcik bounced back from a tough floor rotation to earn her second career perfect 10 for the Maize and Blue. Naomi Morrison and Brooks finished strong on the event with a 9.925 and a 9.800, respectively, but the comeback fell just short as Minnesota captured the title.

The Wolverines will find out where they are headed for regionals Monday (March 22) at 5 p.m. during the NCAA selection show that will be streamed on NCAA.com.
