YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University graduate right-hander Davis Feldman (Warren, Mich.-Brother Rice) took the next step towards his dream of playing baseball at the highest level when he inked a contract with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association of Professional Baseball today, July 19. The American Association, which fields 12 teams, is a professional partner league of Major League Baseball.
"I am beyond excited for Davis to live out his lifetime dream of playing professional baseball," said Head Coach Eric Roof. "He has overcome so many challenges since I have known him. No one is more deserving than Davis. I am so proud to see him accomplish his goal after working so hard to get there!"
Feldman has proven to be one of the most talented arms in the Mid-American Conference since his arrival in 2016. Despite battling injuries in numerous seasons while at EMU, he was able to compile a career full of highlights and accomplishments.
An immediate starter for EMU, Feldman earned 16 trips to the bump, including 10 starts during his true freshman campaign. He finished that season with 57.2 innings pitched, the third-most on the team, and a pair of wins. Additionally, he held opponents to a team-low .219 batting average. He was named MAC West Pitcher of the Week, March 10, after pitching 5.1 scoreless innings against Arizona State, March 5, striking out one.
In 2017, Feldman made 19 appearances on the mound, including three starts. He totaled a 4.79 ERA in 47 innings, racking up 28 strikeouts, and notched a pair of wins as well as a pair of saves. The highlight of his sophomore campaign came during postseason play, when he was named to the MAC All-Tournament team after throwing a complete game in a 9-1 semifinal win over Central Michigan, May 27, allowing just the one run on five hits while striking out five. That effort helped EMU to its first MAC Tournament Championship game since 2008. The outing was the first complete game of his EMU career and was one of four for the Eagles in 2017.
After injuries sidelined Feldman for the majority of the 2018-20 seasons, he battled back to make an impressive impact in 2021.
A team captain, Feldman appeared in 12 games for the Eagles, with 10 being starts during the 2021 campaign. This season, the Warren, Mich. native totaled a career-high four victories, while posting a career-low 2.75 ERA. He amassed 58 strikeouts over his 59.0 innings pitched, while also adding a save to his record. In his final appearance on the mound against Kent State, May 29, he recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts.
For his career, Feldman finished having made 53 appearances, 29 of which were starts, on the hill for the Green and White. In 188 innings pitched, he amassed 129 strikeouts, eight victories, four saves, and held opponents to just a .274 average. He finished with a 4.26 ERA.
