Tyson Jost extends contract for two more years with Colorado Avalanche - Mile High Hockey

erotoko.blogspot.com

In continuation of their busy week the Colorado Avalanche locked up another piece of their roster by signing Tyson Jost to a two-year contract extension. The deal will last through the 2022-23 season and leave Jost with one RFA year left before becoming an unrestricted free agent.

This deal is reported to carry an AAV of $2 million over the two year, which is a raise from his current and expired $874k contract. Jost’s prior pact was just an extension of his Entry Level Contract and a one-year qualifying offer, thus he’s earned a little more money and security after completing his fourth year in the league and 262 regular season games. By signing this extension now Jost avoids having to file arbitration as he was eligible to do so for the first time in his career on August 1st. The only remaining Restricted Free Agent for the Avalanche now is depth defenseman Dennis Gilbert who is also arbitration eligible.

Jost scored a modest 17 points over 54 games in the 2020-21 season but solidified himself into more of a defensive role and was an asset on the penalty kill. This contract gives the Avalanche some cost certainty over the next two years as they deal with living at the top of the salary cap. They have about $4 million left in available cap space to find another depth piece or two, which should probably include a defenseman after trading away both Ryan Graves and Conor Timmins. Otherwise it seems GM Joe Sakic’s offseason tasks are nearing completion.
