Sale, Morocco -- Incoming Creighton freshman Arthur Kaluma scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the final five minutes of his national team debut to lead Uganda past host Morocco, 77-65, on Thursday. The victory clinched a trip to AfroBasket 2021, as Uganda finished 3-1 in qualifiers including a pair of wins vs. Morocco.

Kaluma checked in midway through the first quarter and made a three-pointer within his first 10 seconds of action for his lone points before intermission. Uganda led 32-31 at the half.

Kaluma made 2-of-3 shot attempts in the third quarter to help push the Silverbacks lead to 55-44 before he took over down the stretch.

The 6-foot-7 inch forward made 4-of-5 shots in the final five minutes and helped hold off Morocco. With Uganda's lead trimmed to 62-59, Kaluma scored to make it 64-59 with 4:25 to play. He would make a free throw with 2:09 left to put Ugaanda up 70-63, then convert a traditional three-point play to push the margin to 73-63 with 1:53 remaining. He made two more foul shots with 1:27 to play before capping his evening with a dunk to close the game's scoring with 47 seconds left.

For the game, Kaluma made 7-of-11 shots, including 2-of-3 three-pointers and 4-of-5 free throws. He added five rebounds and two steals in 26 minutes.

Kaluma is one of three current Bluejays who are competing internationally this summer, joining Ryan Nembhard and Ryan Kalkbrenner. Nembhard (Canada) and Kalkbrenner (United States) are both competing in the 2021 FIBA  U19 World Cup, which resumes Friday in Latvia. Both Canada and the United States are unbeaten (4-0) and could potentially meet on Saturday in the semifinal round.

A four-star prospect, Kaluma signed a national letter-of-intent with Creighton in May. He played last season at Dream City Christian High School in Glendale, Ariz., and at No. 46 is the highest-ranked Creighton recruit in the history of the ESPN database, which dates to 2007.

Uganda will now join Group D at AfroBasket 2021 alongside South Sudan and former African champions Senegal and Cameroon. The event will take place from August 24 - September 5 in Kigali, Rwanda.
