Daniel Jones to embark on now-or-never season; NFL’s top five Batman and Robin duos - Bucky Brooks
Rank 3
CB Marlon Humphrey · CB Marcus Peters
Playing great defense in today’s NFL is all about forcing turnovers. With that in mind, the Ravens’ defense will always rank among the game’s best units as long as Peters and Humphrey are leading the way as ball magnets in the secondary. Peters is a turnover machine with 31 career interceptions and nine forced fumbles in six seasons. Although he will give up an occasional play as a fearless gambler, the veteran routinely makes up for his mistakes with a timely interception that changes the momentum of the game. Humphrey is the best ball puncher on the perimeter since Charles “Peanut” Tillman helped the Bears’ defense wreak havoc on the league years ago. The All-Pro finished 2020 with a league-high eight forced fumbles and 2.5 sacks as a slot/outside corner with superb instincts and awareness. These two former first-round picks give the Ravens the league’s best turnover producers in a defensive backfield.
Tyler Huntley — not Trace McSorley — is the ideal backup to quarterback Lamar Jackson - Mike Preston
Based off Organized Team Activities and three days of mandatory mini-camp practices, Huntley clearly distanced himself from McSorley as the No. 2 behind starter Lamar Jackson, who was the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 2019.
Huntley’s body language was different compared to a year ago. He had a swag. There were times when he threw some passes in tiny holes with such velocity that even reporters bristled. When he threw sidelines passes, they were high and tight where only his receivers could make the catch.
Truth be told, his arm strength and touch on the long ball were better than Jackson’s. And there were times when Huntley got outside the pocket and started that mad sprint down the sideline where it was hard to recognize if it was Huntley or Jackson because both wore their jersey’s inside out.
In this age of mobile quarterbacks, the Ravens got another model in Huntley. His skill set is similar to Jackson’s, which makes him an ideal fit for this offense.
Lamar Jackson Focused on Improving Footwork This Offseason - Todd Karpovich
“Well, first thing, I was working on my footwork,” Jackson said. “That’s a big emphasis for me – just working on my footwork, making sure I stay open so the ball can drive, so I can put a little tight spiral on the ball. And ‘EDC’ [executive vice president & general manager Eric DeCosta], I don’t know how he feels about the name. I haven’t asked him. I hope he’s not mad at it, because that’s a good name, I feel. ‘Every Dollar Counts’ – that’s hard.”
“I would say that we’re chasing everything,” Urban said. “Especially this time of year, I want growth everywhere. I want growth in terms of footwork. I want growth in terms of throwing mechanics. I want growth in terms of operating some of the at the line [of scrimmage] adjustments – those kinds of things. I think that’s the natural progression.
NFL Top 100 for 2021: Pro Football Network’s NFL player rankings - Dalton Miller
93) Justin Tucker, K, Baltimore Ravens
Kickers do not matter until they do. Justin Tucker, even as a specialist, deserves to be on this list. He is the most accurate kicker of all time. And he’s a multi-sport athlete, as his opera singing also comes highly regarded!
If we only use Tucker’s accuracy from 50+ yards, he would rank 102nd in all-time accuracy. Likewise, if we only use Tucker’s field goal accuracy from 40-49 yards, he’d still be the most accurate kicker of all time. He is 87 of 96 from that area of the field. From inside 40 yards, he makes 98% of his kicks.
Worst NFL draft pick for all 32 teams since 2006: Mitchell Trubisky, Dwayne Haskins, Josh Rosen and more - Michael Renner
BALTIMORE RAVENS: WR BRESHAD PERRIMAN, UCF (NO. 26 OVERALL IN 2015)
Perriman was a walking injury his first few years with the Ravens. And he was relatively unproductive even when he did play, managing only 576 career yards with the Ravens before he was cut after three seasons. The fact that the Perriman pick, the 26th overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, is the Ravens’ worst shows how well they’ve drafted over this span.
Ranking NFL divisions by running backs: Christian McCaffrey, Alvin Kamara help NFC South edge out NFC East - Patrik Walker
6. AFC North
Starters: Najee Harris (Steelers), J.K. Dobbins (Ravens), Nick Chubb (Browns), Joe Mixon (Bengals)
You love what the Browns have in Chubb, who’ll soon land a sizable extension from the team, and deservedly so. His tandem with Kareem Hunt truly carries this division from a running back perspective, and Dobbins joins Mixon in helping their case. There’s still much to be determined regarding Harris, though, considering he hasn’t taken a single snap in the NFL just yet. You’d like to believe he’ll pick right up where he left off at Alabama, but history has shown that’s not always the case. This isn’t to say Harris won’t be very good for Pittsburgh, but it is to say weighing him more heavily than proven NFL talent on this list would be disingenuous. That said, if he hits the ground running, the AFC North will climb for 2022.
