ST. LOUIS – Facing fifth-seeded Saint Louis in the friendly confines of Chaifetz Pavilion, No. 4 GW volleyball took down the Billikens in four sets to advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals, 25-19, 23-25, 27-25, 25-17.
The Buff & Blue will now meet Loyola Chicago on Saturday at 2 p.m. EST, with live coverage available on ESPN+.
BY THE NUMBERS
Liv Womble matched her career-high with 20 kills, boasting a .528 hitting percentage on 36 attempts with one error. Salem Yohannes added 15 kills and MC Daubendiek tallied 12 kills and one error with a .407 hitting efficiency.
Grace Allread helped lead GW's 63-kill offense with 26 assists and Dilara Elmacioglu recorded 23. Defensively, Bella Bowman paced the backline with 24 digs and Yohannes scooped up 12 for her fourth double-double of the season. Tierra Porter made nine stops at the net, while Daubendiek added four and Addie Feek tallied three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GW jumped to a 4-0 lead to open set one and doubled its lead to 16-8 to take over the opening stanza. Saint Louis put together a pair of scoring runs, but GW's early lead held strong and a solo block from Tierra Porter closed the set to give GW the 25-19 victory.
In set two, it was Saint Louis with the early momentum. The Billikens moved to a 6-0 lead, but as play continued, a firing GW offense put together a five-point scoring run to trim the lead to one at 10-9. The Buff & Blue then pulled back even at 17-17 and managed their first lead of set two at 18-17 before three ties finished set two, with the Billikens coming out on top.
Nine ties came in set three, with GW putting down 14 kills to regain control of the match with a 27-25 set-three victory.
GW continued its dominant performance with an early 10-4 lead in the final set, never surrendering its lead and burying 17 kills with a match-high .483 hitting efficiency to claim the 3-1 quarterfinal victory.
