CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Heavy rain is expected in Clarksville on Wednesday, with up to 1 inch of rain in 24 hours.
“We are expecting a line of thunderstorms to move through the area (Wednesday night) and into the early morning hours of Thursday,” said Alyssa Clements, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Nashville.
Scattered showers will start moving in from the west at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, with showers and scattered thunderstorms that night, according to the NWS.
The risk of severe storms starts Wednesday evening after 6 p.m. Heavy downpours could cause local street flooding.
“The chance for strong to severe thunderstorms is certainly there,” she said. The primary threat is likely to be damaging winds, and it’s going to be an overnight event. “It’s important for people to make sure they have some sort of notification system that can wake them up if a warning happens to be issued,” Clements said.

Wednesday: Showers likely, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 67. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southeast 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Wednesday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 4am, then a chance of showers between 4am and 5am. Low around 53. South wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
