LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The IUPUI women's track and field team posted two new school records and three event wins as the Jaguars participated in the two-day Jim Vargo Invitational, hosted by Bellarmine. After the distance runners strutted their stuff on Friday, the Jags posted two new school records on Saturday as Kayla Wolnik lowered her own school record in the 100 hurdles and freshman Sabrina Robison took over the school record in the pole vault.
All total, IUPUI athletes posted 17 personal bests over the two days.
Friday night was highlighted by Katelyn Murphy's triumphant return to the track as she notched an event win in the 5,000m event in a time of 17:59.73. She won the race by nearly nine seconds under the lights.
"2018 was the last time I ran an outdoor track race so it was great to spike up and get back out there," Murphy said. "The conditions weren't ideal, but I was just happy to have the opportunity to race."
Freshman Madison Fry also registered a personal best time in that race with a time of 19:02.11.
Earlier in the night, a pair of IUPUI freshman ran their first collegiate 10,000m races as Makenna Sunbury clocked a time of 36:43.58 to put her name second on the program's all-time list. Behind her, Ellie Cates spun a time of 38:37.99 to sit tenth on the program's all-time list in the event. Another freshman, Sophie Reichard, followed with a personal best effort of 4:45.37 in the 1,500m race to place fifth of 16 runners. The 800m event capped the night as Sabrina Elder ran a runner-up finish of 2:18.54 and Sophia Taylor crossed at 2:25.68.
On Saturday, Alexandra Schwartz started the day with a win in the 5,000m open race in a personal best time of 18:51.75, winning by almost nine seconds.
