Softball Set For Busy Week Facing Central Washington and Saint Martin's - WOU Athletics

ELLENSBURG, Wash./LACEY, Wash. – The Western Oregon University softball team will end up playing eight games in five days this week to close the Great Northwest Athletic Conference regular season schedule. The Wolves will open the week on Wednesday and Thursday and Central Washington, before closing the weekend at Saint Martin's on Saturday and Sunday.

WOU enters the week 9-11 overall and 5-7 in GNAC play, with their last games taking place on Apr. 11 at Montana State Billings. Seeding for the GNAC Tournament will come down to the final weekend, with the top four spots still up for grabs. Currently, Northwest Nazarene, after taking three of four from Western Washington, moves to first with an 8-4 record. Central Washington, who has been idle over the past few weeks, is second with a 5-3 record. Western Washington is third with a 9-7 record and Saint Martin's, after sweeping four on the road at Montana State Billings, moved to fourth with a 8-8 record. Western Oregon is currently fifth at 5-7.

Chandler Bishop leads the team with a .353 batting average, tallying 12 hits, five home runs, a double and 15 RBI, along with eight runs scored. She has walked five times to just four strikeouts. Sydney Bowers has a .321 batting average with 17 hits, two home runs, a double, a triple and five RBI, along with seven runs scored. Allyson Drury has a .283 average with 13 hits, two home runs, a double and four RBI. Kirah McGlothan adds three home runs and 10 RBI. Erica Soliz (.400), Aleya Turner (.333), Zoie Recolan (.325) and Baylie Kahele (.300) are all hitting over .300 this season. As a team, WOU is hitting .255 with 133 hits, 72 runs scored, 23 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs and 66 RBI.

In the circle, Reilly Tidwell leads the way with a 3.35 ERA in 10 appearances, tallying a pair of wins and three complete games in 37.2 innings. Soliz has a 3.75 ERA in 18.2 innings of work, going 1-0 in four appearances. She has 10 strikeouts to just one walk. Bishop has tossed 25.2 innings, holding a 4.36 ERA in five starts. Nicki Derrick, Jada Young and Maddie Mayer all have two wins apiece this season. As a staff, WOU has a 4.76 ERA in 139.2 innings, posting 79 strikeouts.

WOU ranks in the top-three in the GNAC and nationally in several categories including second in the GNAC and 11th nationally in double players turned per game (0.50), first in the GNAC and 22nd nationally in fielding percentage (.972), third in the GNAC and 62nd nationally in home runs per game (0.80), and second in the GNAC in total sacrifice bunts (17).

Individually, Bishop leads the GNAC and is 27th nationally in slugging percentage (.824), third in the GNAC and 35th nationally in home runs per game (0.31) and fourth in the GNAC in runs batted in per game (0.94). Drury leads the GNAC in both hit-by-pitch (5) and hit-by-pitch per game (0.25), ranking 67th nationally in hit-by-pitch per game.

Central Washington is 13-10 overall and 5-3 in GNAC play. The last games played for the Wildcats was also on Apr. 11 when they defeated Humboldt State to take four out of five in the series. CWU has gone 9-6 at home this season.

WOU and CWU played earlier this season back on Mar. 13-14 in Monmouth with the Wolves taking three of four. All three wins for WOU were by one run.

Theresa Moyle leads the team with a .427 batting average tallying five triples, three doubles, four home runs and 28 RBI. Allie Thiessen has a .408 average with a triple, a double and nine RBI. Harlee Carpenter has a .391 average with seven triples, five doubles and 10 RBI. Maddy Zerr (.351), Alee Cruz (.311), Myiah Seaton (.412), Alycia Bannan (.379), Sasha Mitchell (.368) and Alyssa Benthagen (.340) are all hitting over .300 so far this season. As a team, CWU is hitting .346 with 213 hits, 170 runs scored, 27 doubles, 22 triples, 14 home runs and 154 RBI.

In the circle, Samantha Stanfield has a 3.14 ERA in 10 appearances, logging 43 innings and is 3-3. Rhaney Harris is 5-1 in eight appearances, with a 4.11 ERA in 30.2 innings. As a staff, the Wildcats have a 6.66 ERA in 143.1 innings, collecting 90 strikeouts.

WOU has gone 52-55 in the series since 2002, going 6-4 over the last 10 games. The teams played two games in Ellensburg last year splitting the series. WOU has gone 14-26 in Ellensburg during the time.

WOU will remain on the road to play Saint Martin's on Saturday and Sunday. The Saints are coming off of a big four-game road sweep at Montana State Billings to improve their record to 17-14 overall and 8-8 in GNAC play. Saint Martin's has won five straight, as the series before MSU Billings, they split four games at home with Western Washington.

Britney Patrick leads the Saints with a .337 average, tallying 35 hits, nine doubles, four home runs and 19 RBI. Julia Lucas has a .306 average with 10 doubles, three home runs and 25 RBI. Olivia Schmidt has a .304 average with two doubles, a home runs and 12 RBI. Kylie Lopez adds a .306 average. As a team, SMU is hitting .271 with 219 hits, 153 runs scored, 45 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs and 138 RBI.

In the circle, Abby Runyon has thrown 101.2 innings, going 10-5 with a 4.07 ERA. She also added a save this past weekend. Savannah Owen has tossed 54.2 innings, going 4-6. Tia Ridings has the lowest ERA on the team at 1.35, having pitched 20 innings. Lexi Carlos also sees time in the circle. As a staff, SMU has a 5.33 ERA in 197.2 innings, tallying 91 strikeouts.

WOU has gone 64-31 in the series since 2002, having gone 6-4 over the last 10 games. The teams played a wild game last year in Lacey that went 10 innings before the Saints took the 12-11 victory. That snapped a five-game winning streak in the series for WOU. The Wolves have gone 23-17 in Lacey during that time.
