ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The UConn track & field team took part in a pair of unscored meets this weekend with the focus on individual performance and meeting qualifying standards as the team heads toward the championship portion of the 2021 schedule.

On Friday, the Huskies send a group of distance runners to the University of Virginia to run at the Virginia Challenge.  "We had some great performances yesterday," stated UConn assistant coach Lindsay Crevoiserat.  "Everyone came here with a goal and everyone got the job done yesterday. It's exciting to see their training paying off. I know there's still more where that came from; we're rolling into championship season perfectly. "

"We saw some great performances this weekend, highlighted by Jordan Torney in the decathlon, Wellington Ventura in the 400m hurdles, Terrell Williams in the high hurdles in the men's side and Patti Mroczkowski in the high jump and Kelly Ward in the heptathlon for the women," stated associate head coach Rich Miller.  "As a whole, we may not have been as sharp as we would like to be but I see us getting stronger each week.  With each competition we continue to develop both fundamentally and our competitive IQ."

At Navy on Saturday, UConn had athletes competing in the heptathlon for the first time this outdoor season.

Both Husky teams will return home next weekend to host their final home meet of the spring, the UConn Northeast Invitational with Brown, Northeastern, Rhode Island and Southern Connecticut State.

On the track…

At UVA

  • The Huskies had their top-three compete in a national caliber field in the 5,000 meters and all three set new PR's on the night.  Senior Mia Nahom (New Milford, Conn.) was 11th overall and posted a new PR time of 16:07.78.  Classmate Danielle Jordan (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was right there with her in 13th with a new PR time of 16:08.15. "The race went out ridiculously fast," stated Crevoiserat.  "They held their own, worked together, ran their own race while Mia and Danielle had the fastest close of the field, getting them into regionals.  Randi Burr held tough and PRed as well."  Junior Randi Burr (Westerly, R.I.) set a big PR as well with a time of 16:30.45.
  • In the 1,500, freshman Jenna Zydanowicz (West Hartford, Conn.) had a solid 1500 run, running a 4:33.40.

At Navy
