TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The IUPUI women's track and field team will begin competition at the three-day Gibson Invitational on Thursday (Apr. 15) as the Jags multis athletes take center stage.
On Thursday, Kayla Wolnik and Mikayla Miller will compete in their first career heptathlons, facing off against a deep field of athletes from across the Midwest. The first four events - 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m dash - will all take place on Thursday, followed by the long jump, javelin throw and 800m run on Friday.
Both have participated in pentathlons during indoor season, but will make their collegiate hep debuts and both will take aim at the school record of 3,847 points.
On Friday night, the trio of Libby Bowling, Madison Fry and Alexandra Schwartz are all slated to compete in the 5,000m event. Schwartz is coming off a 5K win at the Jim Vargo Invitational this past weekend, running a time of 18:51.75. Fry ran 19:02.11 at that same meet while Bowling posted a time of 19:49.24.
The remainder of the roster will join them on Saturday and be spread across a full docket of events, beginning at 11:00 a.m..
Highlights IUPUI's competitors on Saturday includes senior Katelyn Murphy, who had an impressive 5K victory in her season debut in Louisville last weekend. Freshman Sabrina Robison set a school record in the pole vault at that meet with a jump of 3.65m (11' 11.75'').
Sabrina Elder has the team's top 800m time of the outdoor season at 2:18.54 and rookie Sophie Reichard is the team's top performer in the 1,500 at 4:45.37.
