SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Four members of the Union College men's lacrosse team were recognized for excellence on the field with spots on the Dynamic Division III All-America Teams, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced on Friday afternoon. Senior Quinn Helmig was named to the All-America second team as a long-stick midfielder, senior defender Ryan Puglisi earned a spot on the All-America third team, while junior attacker Keaton McCann and junior midfielder Kieran McGovern were recognized as All-America honorable mentions.

The four selections are tied for the most honorees ever in a single season for Union (2015, 1941), while Helmig and Puglisi's selections mark only the third time in Union's long history (2014, 1931) that two Dutchmen earned first-, second- or third-team honors in the same season.

Helmig, who was selected to play in the USILA Division III North/South All-Star Game (today at 4pm, watch here), was selected as the only long-stick midfielder on the second team. He was named to the All-Liberty League first team for the first time in his career after an excellent season helping to lead the Dutchman defensive unit. He ranked fourth on the team with 21 ground balls and led the squad with 12 caused turnovers, while also making the most of his forays into the offensive end with a goal and five assists for a career-best six points.

Puglisi earns his spot as one of the top-12 defenders in the country with a third-team nod after he was named a USILA Preseason All-America honorable mention heading into the season. An All-Conference first-team selection in 2021, Puglisi was the anchor of the Dutchman defensive unit this season, grabbing 10 ground balls and causing seven turnovers for a unit that allowed only seven even-strength goals per game in eight contests.

McCann had another very productive season as Union's top offensive option, earning All-America honorable mention after picking up All-Liberty League first-team honors this season and IMLCA All-East Region honorable mention in 2019. The junior led the team with 26 goals and six assists for 32 points, finishing the season second in the Liberty League in goals per game (3.25/gm) and third in points per game (4.10/gm).

McGovern also earns All-America honorable mention following his All-Liberty League first-team honors in 2021. One of Union's top offensive midfielders, the junior scored eight goals with five assists for 13 points in eight contests, while also adding 10 ground balls and two caused turnovers as well.

Coming off a season in which the Dutchmen were ranked in every USILA D-III national poll during the season and reached as high as eighth nationally, Union will return three of its four All-Americans and many of its top offensive and defensive players as the team looks for a return to the NCAA Tournament in 2022.
