JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three members of the La Salle University track & field program headed down to Jacksonville, Fla., on Tuesday in preparation of the upcoming NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Championships, which officially begins on Wednesday. The East Prelims will take place at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville and are hosted by the University of North Florida Wednesday-Saturday.

Graduate student Grace Mancini and junior El Mancini will represent the women's team, while senior Dennis Manyeah will represent the men's squad. They will be hunting for a spot at the National Championships, which take place June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.

THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM FOR GRACE

  • EVENTS: 3000-meter Steeplechase, 5000-meter run (5K)
  • WHEN: Saturday, May 29 (3000S @ 6:10 p.m. / 5K @ 8:30 p.m.)
  • WHERE SHE STANDS: Grace Mancini is seeded fifth in the steeplechase and 25th in the 5K.
  • SURVIVE AND ADVANCE: There will be three heats for the steeplechase, with the top three finishers of each heat advancing to the National Championships along with the next three best times overall. Grace is in the third heat for the steeplechase. There will be two heats for the 5K, with the top five finishers of each advancing as well as the next two best times overall. Grace will be in the second heat for the 5K.
  • NOTES: Grace will be making her third consecutive appearance at the NCAA East Prelims, previously making it for the steeplechase in 2018 and 2019. She has naturally progressed, finishing 35th out of 48 in 2018 and then 17th out of 48 two years ago. This season, Grace has been on a mission, smashing three school records (3K, Steeplechase, 5K). She shattered the steeplechase record with a mark of 9:50.73 at the Quaker Invitational, while her 5K record of 15:58.40 came at the Temple Invitational. Grace earned silver medals in both events at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships her last time out.
DENNIS GOES BACK-TO-BACK
  • EVENT: High Jump
  • WHEN: Friday, May 28, at 1:00 p.m.
  • WHERE HE STANDS: Dennis Manyeah is seeded 23rd out of 48 in the high jump.
  • SURVIVE AND ADVANCE: There will be two flights for the high jump. Manyeah will be in the second flight. The top 12 overall finishers will advance to Nationals. Progressions will go as follows: 2.01m, 2.06m, 2.11m, 2.16m, 2.19m, then 3cm added.
  • NOTES: Manyeah will be making his second straight appearance at the NCAA East Prelims. He just barely missed the cut at the 2019 prelims, placing 15th out of 48. Still, Manyeah broke a school record at the Championships that year with a leap of 2.16 meters (7' 1.0"). He has been a high flier all season, eclipsing seven-feet during two of his five high jump appearances this year. Most notably, Manyeah won his second consecutive high jump title at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships with a season-best jump of 2.15 meters (7' 0.5").
EL READY TO WRITE HER OWN STORY
  • EVENT: 10,000-meter run (10K)
  • WHEN: Thursday, May 27, at 9:10 p.m.
  • WHERE SHE STANDS: El Mancini is seeded 41st in the 10K.
  • SURVIVE AND ADVANCE: There is just one race for the lengthy 10,000 meters. The top 12 finishers in the race will advance to Eugene.
  • NOTES: Eleanor will be making her NCAA Preliminary debut Wednesday night in what will be only her third career 10K race. She has shown some true improvements here in her junior season, starting with a third place finish in the 5K at the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships in early March. Amazingly, El qualified for regionals in her 10K debut at the highly-competitive Raleigh Relays with a time of 34:30.92. Then, she claimed gold with her 10K victory at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships earlier this month with a mark of 34:59.81.
