Members of the Youngstown State track and field program wrapped up the two-day Westminster PAC Last Chance meet and the Hillsdale "Last Chance" Classic Thursday, April 13, posting final marks prior to the much-anticipated NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships (East Region Preliminary Round) in Jacksonville, Florida, May 26-29.
Westminster PAC Last Chance meet
On Wednesday, Noah Drudy acted as the only YSU entry in the men's javelin throw competition, throwing a 56.62m mark en route to posting the top throw of the afternoon.
In the women's event, Olivia Jones posted a fourth place finish in the sole flight of the day with a 41.02m mark on her second attempt. Jones' mark came up just short of her personal-best throw of 43.80 set at the 2021 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships just a week ago.
Terron Taylor highlighted Thursday's outing for the Guins, tying for the top spot in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.08m on his first attempt at the height. Taylor went on to attempt 2.11m, which would act as a personal-best, but failed to clear the bar on three consecutive attempts, ultimately ending his day. Teammate Lonnie Harper cleared 1.97m in the event to post a third place effort.
On his sixth and final attempt, Daiquian Watson posted a 6.83m mark in the men's long jump to take the runner-up finish in the event.
Hillsdale "Last Chance" Classic
Throwing a mark just shy of her personal-best in the event (14.84m), Sammy Dyson posted a 14.54m throw in the women's shot put competition to earn a second place finish in the event. In her second event of the day, Dyson posted a 55.38m hammer throw to tab her second top-5 finish on the day. Concluding her Thursday performance with the women's discus throw, Dyson threw 46.23m in her only recorded mark to accumulate a trio of top-5 finishes in the one-day meet.
Freshman-duo Brock Grundy and Horizon League co-Freshman of the Year Zach Gray went 3, 4 in the men's discus throw, with Grundy successfully upping his personal best in the event (50.31m) to take the third-place nod. Gray posted a 48.78m throw.
Entering into the men's shot put competition, Gray posted a 15.49m throw to finish inside the top-10 marks of the day.
Rounding out the Thursday's throws competition for YSU, Joe Pfeffer notched a personal-best mark in the men's hammer throw, posting a 56.66m mark to finish ninth in the event.
