BOBCATS BY THE NUMBERS: 69 Days Until Kickoff and a Belated Farewell to a 2020 Senior
Bobcats by the Numbers takes a look at current and past Bobcats whose jersey numbers correspond to the number of days remaining before Montana State opens the 2021 football season at Wyoming on September 4.
#69
Vacant: Jersey number 69 is unassigned to this point.
Bobcat Farewell – Denver Krone: (As one of the players who graduated from MSU and walked away from his final year of college football, Denver Krone never received a Senior Day sendoff. This isn't enough, but it's heartfelt.) Denver Krone never grabbed headlines as a reserve Bobcat offensive lineman from 2016-19, but in arguably the most important games of the Jeff Choate era Krone played a mighty important role. The quiet animal science major from Augusta was never the most physically gifted lineman in MSU's stable, but when the team was battling early-season injuries Krone was part of the duct-tape-and-bailing-wire effort to hold things together. And a marvelous effort it was, as he started three of MSU's first four games and those included wins over Southeast Missouri and Northern Arizona which at the end of the day boosted the Bobcats into the FCS Playoffs.
Spotlight: Here's a fun fact about Kerry Pribnow – he was born in Frankfurt, Germany. And here's another fun fact, the former high school basketball standout was known for his agility as a Bobcat offensive linemen even while playing near 300 lbs throughout his career. A quiet kid from tiny Lambert, Montana, Pribnow helped stabilize Montana State's offensive line early in Cliff Hysell's tenure as head coach. He started his final 33 games at tackle, and following his playing career fashioned a career in law enforcement.
Chronology: Steve Vestman (1982), Jon Gass (1983), Brent Jolly (1984), Bryan Ratzburg (1985), Mike Vasquez (1986), Mike Leibelt (1987), Joe Lane (1988), Ryan Springer (1990), Kerry Pribnow (1991-94), Rob Brandland (1995-96), Keith Weatherby (1997-99), Jason Keyser (2000), Adam Olson (2001), Ben Fjare (2004-05), Justin Hill (2006), Kevin Dean (2007-08), David Abercrombie (2009), Steven Laski (2011), Luke Halliburton (2012), Eric Williamson (2013-14), Daniel Fowlie (2014-15), Denver Krone (2016-20)
69 Yards: The length of Kevin Kassis' longest career kickoff return, which came in the 2018 Gold Rush game against Western Illinois.
Other #69 Notes: Ben Fjare was a walk-on offensive lineman from Big Timber in 2004-05 who never really got himself onto the field, battled injuries, and left the program before his eligibility expired. As a student after his playing days, Fjare interned as a designer in the athletic department, a quiet and pleasant kid who did good work on publications. In spite of his abbreviated playing career in the Blue and Gold, most every Bobcat fan knows Ben Fjare's work. As a designer for PRIME, a local company, Fjare has been involved in many projects involving the Bobcat Club and Bobcat Sports Properties. He's one of many shining example of a student-athlete that used their MSU education as a jumping off point into an outstanding professional career.
