800m Final Results

EUGENE, Ore. –

Sarah Hendrick finished fifth in Saturday's 800m final with a time of 2:02.59 to earn First Team All-America honors at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.

"I'm not sure if I can describe how impressive Sarah Hendrick is in words," Assistant Coach Adam Bray said. "I am extremely honored to coach her and very proud of all her accomplishments. She has had a fantastic outdoor sophomore season culminating with another First Team All-America honor. If you ask her though, she is not satisfied. Her future is bright and I'm excited to watch her put Kennesaw State University on her shoulders and show off our university to the world."

Hendrick is the first athlete in program history to reach the finals in a track event, with her fifth place finish marking the best finish in the 800m run in ASUN conference history.

"To get to be the Head Coach and watch Sarah Hendrick continue to develop into not only a perennial national contender, but also remain humble and represent Kennesaw State in such a great manner is just outstanding," said Director of Track and Field Cale McDaniel. "She is an All-American again, Sarah and Coach Bray have done a fantastic job!"

Her time of 2:02.59 marks just the second time in program history an Owl has finished under 2:05.00 in the 800m. That mark is just 1.12 seconds slower than the all-time program record Hendrick set earlier this season.

"Today I leave Eugene still hungry for more," said Hendrick. "While fifth place is a huge step forward, my mind is set on scoring more points for the Owls at the national level in the future. The fire is still burning and burning much hotter than ever as I know there is much more left for me to do at the national level. I love all the support I have been getting from alumni and fans and every congratulations has been much appreciated! Also a big shout out to coach Bray as he has always been such a big believer in me and my potential, he's got to be the best coach out there. Hooty Hoo!"

The junior wrapped up the outdoor season with seven race victories. She opened the season with a win in the 1500m (4:22.94) and the 4x800m relay (8:52.77) at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays. That 4x800m relay time established a new school record.

The Kennesaw native won the 800m in a personal-best time of 2:01.47 at the Crimson Tide Invitational. That time qualified her for the 2021 NCAA Olympic Trials while establishing a new school record in the event. She won the 1500m at the Rick Erdmann Twilight in a personal-best time of 4:18.31 to set another new school record.

She was named the ASUN Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer for her performance at the conference championships where she was crowned champion in both the 800m and the 1500m races.

Hendrick was also one of three Owls to represent the KSU women's track and field team on the ASUN Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic team.
