—North Laurel basketball star Reed Sheppard (Jeff’s son) has been offered by Louisville.

—Nine U of L rowers made the ACC All-Academic Team.

—Despite the weekend beginning with the surprising and abrupt departure of recruiting director David Cooper, four-star Cardinal football commit Popeye Williams says he’s still all in.

—State of Louisville writes that losing coach Coop is a big deal.

—New U of L hoops guard Noah Locke will talk with the media Wednesday afternoon at 2.

—Scott Satterfield has extended a scholarship offer to Tennessee LB Ethan Crisp. The class of 2023 recruit was a standout at U of L’s recent camp.

—After something of a disappointing 2020 season, Malik Cunningham is determined to get back on track this fall.

Following a 2019 season that saw Cunningham rank as one of the nation’s most efficient passers, his efficiency rating took a hit last fall. His passing yardage and completion percentage with both up, but so were his interceptions.

“I think about some of those turnovers every day when I wake up or even when I watch film, some of those turnovers I shouldn’t have thrown,” Cunningham told Cardinal Authority. “You just got to learn from it and use it like fuel and go out there with a better mindset. Go out there every day knowing I can get better at something.”

The Montgomery, Ala., native has added more work this offseason, including minor adjustments to his overall game.

“I would say definitely the film room, and extra footwork things,” Cunningham said. “Coach is trying to help me out with little mechanics, tweaking my game a little bit. So I’ve been doing those each and every day trying to get better.”

The offseason of change also comes with a shift back to some normalcy. Gone are the tight restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing back a return to a more usual offseason workout slate.

“It’s like night and day,” Cunningham said. “It’s been so much of a difference. It’s actually been a good transition, just knowing that we’re all back here, and we’re one or two people away from opening this thing and back up. It’s been good to have everybody back, and been able to not wear masks, people are vaccinated. We can just do a lot around the stadium, stay for extra hours and not have somebody tell us what we can do, what we can’t do, and things like that. It’s been good.”

—More bad news for former U of L women’s basketball star Shoni Schimmel, who was arrested in Oregon early Monday morning and is facing felony charges of assault and criminal mischief.

—Louisville football has offered Male High standout Jeremiah Monroe.

—Louisville Report looks at the top summer questions for U of L football’s position groups.

—A group of Cardinal football players did some real good over the weekend.

The Cardinals huddled up with crews from Habitat for Humanity to repair a home in Louisville’s Portland neighborhood. Players cleaned gutters, repaired siding and painted a fence — among other renovations.

The project is part of Habitat’s Community Development and Home Repair program, which aims to revitalize neighborhoods and to provide people who live there a safe place to call home.

Players were excited to take part in the program and give back to fans who support the team. Some said volunteer opportunities help them on the field, too.

“It’s great for team chemistry,” said R.J. Sorensen, a freshman defensive lineman from Florida. “When you’re out here away from the game of football and you’re doing other things and you’re out here working, talking, laughing and doing stuff together, that’s teamwork at it’s finest right there.”

—Muhammad Ali’s daughter, Rasheda, says her father’s most powerful mark was the love he left in the world.

—The college football powers that be are on the verge of doing something really good. Please don’t screw it up.

—Louisville RB Jalen Mitchell gained a lot of confidence from his breakout game against Wake Forest last season, but he refuses to be complacent.

—Fresh Prince still raking.

—Carlik Jones is among the 40 players expected to attend the 2021 NBA G League Elite Camp.

—Athlon previews the 2021 Louisville football season.

Final Analysis

Satterfield has work to do fixing the offense, upgrading the defense and repairing his relationship with fans. Cunningham must improve his accuracy and decision-making without the safety net of his two favorite receivers. Defensively, Louisville should continue to improve, but it’s not a group with elite ACC talent. The Cards may need breaks and good health to finish on the right side of .500.

National Ranking: 45

—Rick Bozich writes that Scott Satterfield and Malik Cunningham must fix Louisville’s unsettled QB room.

—After spending a New York minute on the U of L campus, Luke McCaffrey has transferred to Rice.

—And finally, congrats to Peyton Siva, who has repeated as a Bundesliga champion in Germany.
