Hirtle received her second Patriot League Women’s Golfer of the Week honor of the season after shooting a 4-over par 76 during a rain-shortened Lehigh Invitational at the par-72 Saucon Valley Country Club. Hirtle posted her second top-five finish of the fall season.
Lehigh sophomore Sophia Taverna and Navy senior Chad Deegan received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Sam Barton, Lehigh, Jr., Center Tuftonboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional
*Barton tied for third place at the Lehigh Invitational by shooting an even-par 144 (72-72) at the par-72 Saucon Valley Country Club.
*He totaled seven birdies during the 36-hole tournament to finish two strokes behind the co-medalists.
*Barton was the top Patriot League finisher in a field that included Bucknell, Holy Cross and Lafayette, helping the Mountain Hawks place fifth.
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Mara Hirtle, Navy, So., Pinehurst, N.C./Pinecrest
*Hirtle finished third by shooting a 4-over par 76 during the rain-shortened Lehigh Invitational at the par-72 Saucon Valley Country Club.
*She tied her third-lowest single round of the season, marking her second top-five finish of the fall campaign.
*Hirtle led the Mids to a second-place finish with a team score of 24-over par 312.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Sophia Taverna, Lehigh, So., Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel
*Taverna tied for fourth place by shooting a 5-over par 72 at the rain-shortened Lehigh Invitational at the par-72 Saucon Valley Country Club. She was scheduled to compete as an individual but moved into the scoring lineup on Monday morning.
Chad Deegan, Navy, Sr., Newport Beach, Calif./Servite
*Deegan paced Navy by shooting an even-par 213 (75-65-73) at the 17-team ODU/OBX Intercollegiate at the par-71 Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powell’s Point, N.C. His second-round 6-under par 65 is the fourth-lowest round vs. par in program history.
