Washington Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette announced on Sunday that goaltender Darcy Kuemper and defenseman Martin Fehervary are both day-to-day after leaving Saturday’s 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames with upper-body injuries.
Goaltender Hunter Shepard was unavailable for the AHL Hershey Bears’ game on Sunday, hinting that he could be called up prior to Washington’s game at the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night (8:30 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington in-market, ESPN+ out-of-market).
Caps defenseman Martin Fehervary has been ruled out for WSH’s game in Edmonton tomorrow night, per Laviolette. He is day to day with an upper body injury.
WSH goalie Darcy Kuemper (upper body) is still being evaluated today … sounds like Caps will have to make a goalie recall.

Fehervary, who has two goals, four points, a +1 rating, 47.91% five-on-five Corsi-for percentage, 45.91% five-on-five expected goals-for percentage, and a 49.02% five-on-five scoring chances-for percentage in 26 games this season, took a high hit in the arm area from Calgary right-wing Milan Lucic with around 11:30 left in the second period of Saturday’s game and did not return.
Back-up Charlie Lindgren, who is 2-3-2 with an .890 save percentage and 3.51 goals-against average in nine games this season, replaced Kuemper with 3:50 to go in the second and made seven saves on nine shots (.778 save percentage) after Kuemper stopped 20 of 22 (.923) on Saturday. Lindgren’s record includes a 25-save performance (.862 save percentage) in Washington’s 5-4 win over Edmonton on November 7.
Kuemper has gone 8-9-2 with a .916 save percentage, 2.56 goals-against average, and two shutouts in 20 games.
Washington has 159 man-games lost due to injury this season, the second-highest in the NHL. They are also currently without right-wing Connor Brown (ACL, out for rest of season); defenseman Dmitry Orlov (lower-body, day-to-day); left-wing Carl Hagelin (hip, indefinite); right-wing Tom Wilson (ACL, indefinite); center Nicklas Backstrom (hip, indefinite); and left-wing Beck Malenstyn (finger, week-to-week).
