MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's basketball team will take to the road once again when they face-off with Towson University on Tuesday morning before coming back to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse for their last home game before the holiday break on Saturday afternoon.
Memphis (5-5) is coming off a tough battle with the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State. Despite getting down early in the game, the Tigers were able to stage a comeback in the third quarter to get within reaching distance of MTSU. But, their deficit from the first half would prove too great and they suffered the 69-53 loss.
Jamirah Shutes and Hannah Riddick led the team with 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Jada Wright had a big day on the boards for Memphis with eight rebounds.
For the season, Shutes and Madison Griggs are leading the team, offensively, with 27.1 combined points per game while Riddick and Emani Jefferson have controlled the defensive end for the Tigers with 105 rebounds.
Towson (5-4) is fresh off a victory over Howard where Skye Williams and Quinzia Fulmore led the Tigers with 14 points, each, while Fulmore grabbed a team-high nine rebounds – five of which came on the offensive end. A 19-9 fourth quarter advantage from Towson would secure them the 68-58 win.
Kylie Kornegay-Lucas has been the driving force for the Tigers this season with 16.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and just over four assists per game to lead the team.
This will be the first meeting all-time between Memphis and Towson after last year's game was postponed due to health and safety concerns within the Towson program.
Saint Louis (3-10) is off to a rocky start this season. The Billikins are currently on a two-game losing skid that was extended when fellow American Athletic Conference rival, Wichita State, came away with a 77-74 win over SLU.
The Billikins would string together a 29-point fourth quarter after getting down by as much as 17. But, five made free throws from the Shockers in the final two minutes of the game would seal the deal.
Kyla McMakin leads Saint Louis this season with 16.8 points per game while Brooke Flowers is adding in 10.8 points and grabbing a team-high 7.1 rebounds.
Memphis and Saint Louis are no stranger to one another; the Tigers and Billikins have met 29 times in the past with Memphis holding the 23-6 all-time record. The last time the two teams met, Saint Louis took the 82-74 final behind a 48-point second half.
Tuesday's game at Towson is scheduled to tip-off at 10 a.m. CT with coverage available on FloHoops (subscription required) while Saturday's game against Saint Louis is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. CT with coverage available on ESPN+.
