Shorewomen Opener 6-2 Before Bears Grab Second Game in Five Innings 11-3
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College and visiting Ursinus split a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field. The Shorewomen used a four-run bottom of the second inning in a 6-2 win in game one, while the Bears scored the game's first 11 runs in game two in an 11-3 win in five innings due to the eight-run rule. The Shorewomen are 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference, while the Bears are 2-2 overall and in the Centennial.
Washington College 6 Ursinus 2 (Game 1)
How It Happened
- Washington scored four two-out runs in the last of the second inning to lead for good. Hannah Solge singled up the middle to plate both Amelia Mazza and Julia Hallman. Grace Moery then socked a double to right-center to chase in Alyssa Vieira to make it 3-0 and Solge scored on a base hit to right field by Megan Robbins to cap the four-run outburst.
- The Bears got two runs back in the top of the fourth when Kailey Martin's infield single dropped between two Washington infielders to score both Jordan Moore and Sara Sullivan to cut the lead to 4-2.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Washington got a run back as Robbins singled to right for knock in Solge with two away to make it 5-2.
- Vieira capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to centerfield with one away to plate Lexi Barnhart in the bottom of the fifth to cap the scoring.
For The Shorewomen (4-7, 2-3 CC)
- Hitting: Solge (2-for-4, two runs, two RBI), Moery (3-for-4, RBI), Robbins (2-for-2, two RBI), Barnhart (3-for-4)
- Pitching: Barnhart (win 4-3, complete game, five hits, two unearned runs, two walks, nine strikeouts)
- Washington committed one error in game one, leading to two Ursinus runs.
- The Shorewomen had 13 hits and drew three walks in the game, while leaving 10 on base.
For Ursinus (1-2, 1-2 CC)
- Hitting: Mackenzie Brennan (2-for-4), Martin (two RBI)
- Pitching: Kayla McTamney (loss 0-2, four innings, seven hits, five runs, four earned, three walks, one strikeout)
- Ursinus had five errors in the opener, leading to three runs for WC.
-The Bears had five hits, drew two walks and one get on via hit by pitch, while stranding seven on base.

- 11 of the 12 runs in the game came with two away.
Ursinus 11 Washington College 3 (Game 2 – Five Innings)
How It Happened
- In the top half of the first, Grace White singled with one away up the middle to score Brennan for the game's opening run.
- Ursinus posted five runs in the top of the second to extend its lead to 6-0 with Allyson Meakim capping the five-run flurry with a two-out, two-run single up the middle that chased in White and Ally St. Jean.
- The Bears notched three more runs in the top of the third to lead 9-0 and then tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth to gives the visitors an 11-0 advantage.
- Washington in its last trip to the dish scored three times to cut the lead to 11-3 with the final run coming from Barnhart on a two-bagger to right by Mazza with two away. However, Ursinus pitcher Alexis Miller got Chrissy Segrest to foul out to first to end the game due to the eight-run rule.
For The Shorewomen (4-8, 2-4 CC)
- Hitting: Solge (2-for-2, run), Barnhart (2-for-3, run, RBI)
- Pitching: Ashley Politza (loss 0-5, 1 1/3 innings, five hits, four runs, four earned, zero walks, one strikeout)
- The Shorewomen had nine hits in the game and drew two walks as they left eight on base.
- WC had four errors in the field, leading to two unearned runs for the guests.
For Ursinus (2-2, 2-2 CC)
- Hitting: Brennan (3-for-4, four runs, two RBI), White (3-for-3, two RBI), St. Jean (3-for-4, run RBI), Meakim (two RBI), Sara Sullivan (two runs)
- Pitching: Miller (win 2-0, nine hits, three runs, three earned, two walks, one strikeout)
- The Bears had 14 hits with the aid of four walks and had one get on due to hit by pitch in the second game as they left seven on base.
- Ursinus committed zero errors in the field.
