KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan baseball team split its doubleheader with Mid-American Conference Leader Central Michigan on Saturday inside Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field, dropping the first game 11-0 before clinching the second game, 10-3.

In the doubleheader split the Broncos were guided by five players who hit over .300 and six players with at least one RBI. Western Michigan scored 10 runs on 13 hits in the two-game set with three doubles and one home run. As a team WMU also drew 10 walks and had a .393 on-base percentage.

Senior Ethan Hajdukovic led the Broncos at the plate with a .400 batting average to go along with a team-high three RBIs and one run scored. Behind Hajdukovic was fellow senior Drew Devine who went 2-for-5 on the day with one double, one RBI and two runs scored. Devine recorded a .600 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage against the Chippewas.

Junior Blake Dunn hit .333 against the Chippewas and recorded the Broncos lone home run in game two. Dunn now has four home runs on the season and 12 RBIs. Fellow junior Justin McIntyre matched Dunn with a .333 batting average with two RBIs, one double and one run scored.

On the mound the Broncos were guided by a complete game performance from sophomore RHP Brady Miller who picked up his first win of the season in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. Miller in seven innings of work allowed just three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Miller in the complete game victory held CMU batters to a .231 batting average.

With the doubleheader split Western Michigan now has an overall record of 19-22 and 18-13 in conference play. The Broncos with a 2-1 lead in the series will look to clinch its first series victory over CMU since 2018 on Sunday, May 16. First pitch in the series finale is set for 1:05  p.m.

Game One (Western Michigan – 0, Central Michigan – 11)
In game one of Saturday's doubleheader the Western Michigan baseball team was unable to cross home plate in an 11-0 loss to Central Michigan inside Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field.

Western Michigan registered just three hits in game one with Justin McIntyre, Blake Dunn and Will Morrison each having a hit against the Chippewas. McIntyre went 1-for-3 at the plate while Morrison and Dunn each had a 1-for-2 performance. Morrison's lone hit was his tenth double of the season.

On the mound the duo of Easton Sikorski and Hayden Berg combined for five strikeouts while walking just three CMU batters.  

For the second straight day the Broncos nearly got on the board first in the bottom of the first as Justin McIntyre gave WMU its first hit of the ballgame with a single to right field. After a walk by Dunn the Broncos had runners on first and second with one out before a double play ended the scoring threat.

Central Michigan gained the lead in the middle innings with three runs in the third and fourth followed by one run in the fifth to gain a 7-0 advantage. Western Michigan looked to get on the scoreboard in bottom of the fifth, placing runners on second and third before a groundout to the CMU second baseman ended the inning.

The Chippewas added to its lead late with one run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh to secure the 11-0 game one victory.

Game Two (Western Michigan – 10, Central Michigan – 3)
Guided by a complete game performance from sophomore RHP Brady Miller and an offensive explosion the Western Michigan baseball team defeated Central Michigan 10-3 in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.

It was a dominant day on the mound for sophomore RHP Brady Miller who threw all seven innings in game two, allowing three earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts. It's the first complete game and victory for Miller this season.

Offensively the Broncos registered 10 runs on 10 hits with eight different players recording a hit. Western Michigan scored in all but one inning in game two with three in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The senior duo of Drew Devine and Ethan Hajdukovic recorded multi-hit games for the Brown & Gold as Devine went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored. The Marshall, Mich., native also had one double and two walks. Behind Devine was Hajdukovic with a 2-for-3 performance with three RBIs and one run scored.

Preseason MAC Player of the Year Blake Dunn had a stellar day at the plate going 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Dunn provided the power blasting his fourth home
run of the season over the left field wall in the bottom of the fourth.

In the leadoff spot junior Connor Charping went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Charping also drew a walk and had one stolen base. Sophomore Jimmy Allen in the eight spot went 1-for-4 and ranked second on the team with two RBIs.  

For the second time this series the Broncos got on the board first with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the first. With two outs junior Sean O'Keefe reached base on an error by the CMU third baseman that allowed Charping to score from third and give the Brown & Gold a 1-0 lead.

Western Michigan continued to add to its lead in the bottom of the first as an RBI double off the right field wall by Drew Devine extended the Bronco lead to 2-0. In the next at-bat Ethan Hajdukovic roped an RBI single to right field to score Devine and give WMU a 3-0 lead.

Central Michigan responded in the top of the second with three runs on just one hit to tie the game at three. The game was knotted at three until the bottom of the third when Blake Dunn rocketed his fourth home run of the season over the left centerfield wall to propel the Broncos back in front 4-3.

The Broncos added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth with two runs on two hits. After Will Morrison was hit by a pitch with one out, Charping earned an infield single to give WMU runners on first and second with one out. In the next at-bat, McIntyre delivered with a bases clearing two RBI double to extend the Bronco advantage to 6-3.

Western Michigan added to its lead once again in the bottom of the fifth with two runs on three hits. With runners on second and third and one out, Jimmy Allen rocketed a two-RBI single back up the middle to score Devine and Hajdukovic and take an 8-3 lead. It was Allen's 13th and 14th RBIs of the season.

For the third straight inning the Broncos grabbed two runs to extend their lead to 10-3. The bases were loaded with one out for Hajdukovic who connected on a two-RBI single to right field and extended the WMU lead to seven.

The Chippewas looked to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, placing runners on the corners with two outs. However a fly ball to second baseman Justin McIntyre ended the scoring threat and secured the 10-3 victory for the Brown & Gold.
