MANHATTAN, Kan. – The No. 6/4 Texas Track and Field program swept the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Championships, winning the title with a meet-record 207 points on the women's side and 173 points on the men's side. The UT women were victorious by 93 points in total, while the men triumphed by a 29 points.

Saturday's victories for the Texas men and women completed the Longhorns' full sweep of the 2021 Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor titles. It is only the fifth time in league history a team has achieved that feat, with Texas responsible for four of those efforts (1999, 2006, 2015, 2021). Nebraska is the only other current or former Big 12 member institution to sweep the conference's Track and Field titles in the same year, doing so back in 2000. Saturday's victories also brought the Texas Track and Field program to 77 conference titles all-time (54 men/23 women).

The Longhorns claimed 13 individual event titles on Sunday, bringing the team's total to 18 for the meet as a whole.

The women's 4x100-meter relay opened up Texas' championship account on Sunday, starting the meet off with a victorious 44.36 as heavy poured onto the R.V. Christian Track Complex. Texas' quartet consisted of Chanel Brissett, Kevona Davis, Rhasidat Adeleke and Kynnedy Flannel.

Flannel's anchor leg of the relay was just the start of a historic Sunday for the Alvin, Texas native, as she earned Women's High Point Performer honors thanks to her relay win as well as victory in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as an individual.

Tara Davis joined Flannel as a double individual title winner thanks to victory in the 100-meter hurdles on Sunday. Davis clocked 13.02 to win the race and pair her hurdles crown with a victorious effort in the long jump on Saturday. Kathryn Gillespie (1500m), Stacey Ann Williams (400m), Elena Bruckner (Discus) and Brooke Jaworski (400mH) also all earned women's individual Big 12 titles on the meet's final day.

Texas' 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Serenity Douglas, Kennedy Simon, Davicia Patterson and Stacey Ann Williams, added the feather in the Longhorns' cap with a victory in the meet's final event. Their victory pushed Texas over the 200-point mark as a team.

The UT men also closed out the meet with a victorious 4x400-meter relay after already securing the title. The team of Matt Nortje, Willington Wright, Jon Maas and Jonathan Jones provided the effort as Jones edged out the competition at the line to win the title.

Individually, Yusuf Bizimana was the highlight for the Longhorns as he completed a distance double with victories in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs. Bizimana opened with a title-winning kick in the 1,500-meter run, clocking 3:44.87 and pulled ahead of his Iowa State competition at the line. He followed it up with a collegiate-best 1:46.84 in the 800-meter race to climb to No. 4 in Texas history and No. 9 in the NCAA this season, on top of winning a second Big 12 title.

Micaiah Harris also earned Big 12 gold thanks to a 20.56 in the 200-meter dash. It was Harris' first Outdoor 200-meter title at the Big 12 Championships and a cap to a strong weekend for the Virginia Beach, Va. native that featured action in the 4x100-meter relay, as well as the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

In total, Texas had 48 student-athletes (22 women/26 men) contribute to the team score across 40 different events. The meet as a whole featured 42 scored events, meaning the Longhorns produced at least one point in 95.2% of the contested events at this year's Big 12 Championships.

The Longhorns continue their postseason journey in two weeks at the NCAA West Preliminary Round (May 26-29) in College Station, Texas. That field will be filled by the top-48 competitors in each event on the men's and women's side, with the top-12 finishers at the meet advancing to the NCAA Championships in June.

CHAMPIONSHIP HEAD COACH
EDRICK FLOREAL, TEXAS
On the performance of his teams…
"I'm extremely proud. We've been building this team for the last couple of years. Obviously, we didn't get a chance to throw this party last year due to COVID, but the kids were very excited. They were looking forward to the challenge, and I think we responded well. The big word is Texas Fight, and they showed plenty of that today."

On Yusuf Bizimana...
"(Yusuf Bizimana) is like one of my sons. His dad made me promise to look after him, so I treat him like my own kid. He's a fantastic competitor. We've been working on the speed and turnover just making sure that he's fit enough to do that. I love that kid. He's a great, great team leader. He really elevates the team."

On Kynnedy Flannel…
"We had PR's just about everywhere. We actually really wanted to do that number. I'm glad she did it yesterday, because the weather didn't really cooperate today. (Kynnedy Flannel), again, fantastic kid, great competitor. She puts her heart and soul out there for the team and this university. We appreciate the day-to-day battles and the day-to-day sacrifices."

On Tara Davis
"Tara Davis, I think when she was a baby, they must have dropped her in a big cup of coffee. She just has so much energy and is all over the place. As soon as the meet was over, she was begging me to do the 4x100 next meet. She just wants to add stuff. She's just an awesome kid and everybody knows her story. So, watching her shine and watching her be successful is just so cool just that a kid can go through that and we can keep her hanging on long enough to have this sort of level of success in watching them so they can enjoy watching mom and dad and grandma and grandpa be a part of that was really cool. I love Tara. I made a commitment to her when she came to Texas that we were going to get her back to the level that she should be and should have been. And I feel like we've held up that part of the bargain."

On the next steps...
"Right now we're just going to take a couple of days off, kind of get the kids' legs back under them. Then, we're going to think about the big picture of the NCAA Championship, and try to position ourselves in regionals to get there. If you just compete at regionals and make a bunch of events that you can't really be successful in, that doesn't make much sense. For me, let's just look at it and think if we can work backwards and figure out what's the best decision for KV, for Tara Davis. So, there's a bunch of stuff going through my head. Right now, I'm just going to sit on it, and enjoy this victory and kind of get ready to make this decision, next week."

WOMEN'S HIGH POINT WINNER
KYNNEDY FLANNEL, TEXAS
On earning the Big 12 Outdoor High Point Award…
"It is very special. I feel like we all put our bodies on the line, especially in this weather. We all went out there competing to the best of our ability. So it means a lot."

On her performance this weekend helping her at regionals and nationals...
"I'm definitely more confident. I know I'm in shape. I trust my training and I just have a different confidence in me and  I'm willing to push myself to another level. I'm excited."

On etching her name in the Texas record books with her weekend performance...
"I feel like there's gonna be a lot. I don't feel like I'm finally in the record books, but I finally have my name up there. I'm just excited. I feel like it means a lot, especially to me and my family and my teammates."
