The Bison will host the championships for the fifth time and the first time since 2018 when the Army West Point men and Bucknell women captured League titles, respectively.
The women’s 6K championship race will kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The men’s 8k race will follow at 11 a.m. All 10 Patriot League programs will compete in the championships, with team scoring determined by each squad’s top-five finishers. Patriot League Cross Country Major Awards and All-League Honors
The Patriot League cross country major awards will be distributed following the race and will be determined by the individual finish of the competing student-athletes at the championship. The individual champion of both races will be named the Patriot League Runner of the Year for the men and women. The top-finishing freshman in both races earns Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors. The top-seven finishers in the men’s and women’s races make the All-Patriot League First Team, with the eighth through 14th-place runners making up the second team. The Patriot League’s Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year will be voted on by the League’s head coaches at the conclusion of both races.
Returning All-Patriot League Performers
Defending champion Navy returns seniors Brett Brady, Sam Keeny and Garrison Clark, who placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, to earn first-team All-League honors at the 2021 Patriot League Men’s Cross Country Championships. Six of the seven second-team honorees return, including Boston University junior Matt Mason (8th), senior Kevin Murphy (10th) and graduate student Marcel Aubry (13th), who helped the Terriers to a third-place team finish. Junior Thomas Vo (11th) and senior Matthew Porter (12th) are back from the second-place Black Knights. Lafayette senior Robert Oehrlein (9th) is also back.
Army West Point junior Georgia Jones returns to the championship field after claiming Patriot League Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2021. Third-place finisher Andrea Claeson of Boston University also returns to the talented women’s field that includes eight All-League honorees from the 2021 championship. Holy Cross senior Eve Feuerbach (6th) and Navy junior Elizabeth Sullivan (7th) round out the returning first-team selections from last season. Sullivan highlights four returning all-League performers from defending champion Navy. Junior Eleanor Abraham (8th), senior Winter Boese (9th) and junior Emily Boutin (12th) are all back after making the second team in 2021. Army West Point senior Lily Nunnery joins Jones from last season’s third-place Black Knights.
Patriot League Cross Country Championship History
The Army West Point men’s cross country program has won a Patriot League-best 11 team championships, including the last four. Navy is second with nine, while American and Bucknell are next with six titles. Lehigh is the only other men’s program to win a Patriot League Cross Country Championship, accomplishing the feat in 2012.
The Bucknell women’s program has a League-high 12-team titles. Army West Point (5), Navy (5), Boston University (4) and American (2) have each won multiple League Championships. Colgate, Lafayette and Lehigh each have one women’s team title.
USTFCCCA Regional Polls
The Navy men’s cross country team is ranked No. 4 in the US Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region when the polls were released on Oct. 17. Bucknell was No. 13 and American checked in at No. 15. Boston University is No. 11 in the Northeast Region, with Army West Point one spot behind at No. 12
Navy’s women’s team is currently No. 7 in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Poll, while Lehigh is ranked No. 15. The Black Knights are ranked No. 8 in the Northeast Region, with Boston University placing 10th in the latest poll.
