KENT – The Kent State University Athletic Department is excited to announce a two-year enhanced partnership with Team IMPACT, building on a partnership that started in 2018.
Team IMPACT pairs children facing serious illnesses and disabilities with college athletic programs. Since 2018, Team IMPACT has placed four children with the Golden Flashes, starting first with the field hockey program and adding men's basketball, gymnastics and football over the next four years. Team IMPACT's young members officially match and sign with their respective teams for two years and participate in many team activities, including competitions, practices, and other team events. Team IMPACT guides a relationship between student-athletes and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.
"Team IMPACT changes the lives of children in Ohio, but also has a profound impact on the teams that are matched," said Executive Senior Associate AD/SWA Suzette McQueen, who also sits on the Team IMPACT Advisory Board. "This partnership will allow our department to work in collaboration to elevate the work our teams and student-athletes do across our campus and community and we look forward to working with Team IMPACT to develop the next generation of student-leaders in the locker room and beyond."
This enhanced relationship will center around empathy, inclusion, awareness and excellence. As part of the agreement, Kent State will continue to participate in Team IMPACT partnerships and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will establish a committee for currently matched athletes and those that are interested in being matched. Team IMPACT will provide exclusive access to student-athlete development opportunities through curriculum-based training focusing on topics such as diversity and inclusion, advocacy and professional development. In addition, multiple promotions spotlighting Team IMPACT will take place throughout the year at select home games of participating teams.
"Kent State will be the foundation for our Midwestern Team IMPACT school partnerships and we are thrilled to be aligning with one of the premier universities in Ohio," said Seth Rosenzweig, CEO of Team IMPACT. "Over our four-year relationship, Kent State student-athletes, teams, and the athletic administration have demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of children in Ohio and we are excited to deepen our relationship by bringing more kids and teams together on campus."
