LOWELL, Mass. – Coming off back-to-back conference wins, the UMass Lowell women's soccer team (5-5-2, 2-1-0 AE) returns to action to host the Bryant Bulldogs (3-5-4, 0-1-3 AE) on Sunday, October 9. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Cushing Field.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks enter Sunday's contest on after two straight America East wins. UMass Lowell picked up a first conference win of the season against Vermont on September 29 behind a two-goal performance from Calliste Brookshire. Three days later the River Hawks picked up a first road win of the year. Once again, Brookshire was directly involved in both goals, scoring one, that helped secure a 2-0 win over NJIT. Ioanna Papatheodorou and Brookshire are tied for the team lead with six goals this season. Papatheodorou has two assists to total 14 points while Brookshire has one assist for 13 points.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant comes to Lowell with a 3-5-4 overall record and a 0-1-3 mark in conference play. The Bulldogs dropped their opening America East contest against Binghamton (1-0) and played to three straight draws against Vermont, UAlbany and UMBC. Bryant has scored 12 goals as a unit this season, with Emma Pedolzky and Makayla Griffin leading the way with two goals each. They sit seventh in the league in goals allowed, conceding 18 goals through 12 games. Goalkeeper Kathryn McNeil is third in the conference in goals against average (1.046) and saves (40) in 10 games in net.
MATCHUP HISTORY
Sunday's meeting will be the first time these teams met as conference rivals as Bryant became the newest member of the America East conference over the summer. The River Hawks are 4-0-1 against the Bulldogs dating back to 2015. UMass Lowell has not conceded a goal against Bryant, outscoring the Bulldogs 6-0 in the five previous meetings. The last time these teams met, Ioanna Papatheodorou scored the only goal in the 85th minute to give UMass Lowell three points.
THE COMFORTS OF HOME
UMass Lowell has enjoyed the home slate this season, putting together a 4-1 record at Cushing Field. The River Hawks have outscored opponents 15-8 at home and have kept one clean sheet. The team is 1-0 in conference games in Lowell and have won the last three games played at Cushing this season.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Ioanna Papatheodorou was the leading scorer in the league last season, tallying 10 goals for 20 points. The sophomore has six goals through 12 games this season. She has added two assists to total a team-high 12 points. The River Hawks will look to their star striker for more production as points in the conference grow more important. Papatheodorou sits second in the league in shots and shots on goal and is tied with Calliste Brookshire for the team lead in goals.
VETERAN CORE
The River Hawks have returned four veteran members of the team this season in graduate students Emily Nelson, Dunja Mostarac and Lily Fabian, and redshirt senior Chaima Khammar. The veteran leadership group has been key in getting the newcomers acclimated and raising the level of play on the field. Having been through several seasons, the group leads by example on and off the field.
CONFERENCE RANKS
Ioanna Papatheodorou sits second in the league in shots (43) and shots on goal (18). Calliste Brookshire and Papatheodorou are two of four players tied for second in the conference in goals scored with six each. Both players are also in the top six total point scorers so far this season. The River Hawks have allowed 24 goals this season, the most of any team. The team has scored 21 goals, third best in the league.
