ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team started off its 2022-23 Liberty League season with a 7-2 victory over Bard College on Wednesday afternoon at the Stevenson Courts.

Sophomore Kurtik Appadoo and first-year Christian Crowder both were dual victors on the day for Union, with Crowder earning the first singles and doubles dual-match victories of his collegiate career. Fellow first-years Jonathan Tsipenyuk and Hayden Brown both earned the first career singles victories as well for Union in the win.

Union started the day by taking two of three doubles matches to grab an early lead. Crowder and senior Ryan Dagan got Union on the board first with an 8-1 third-doubles victory, while Appadoo and sophomore Austin Gregory ensured the visitors would take a lead into singles play with an 8-5 win at second doubles. Tsipenyuk and sophomore Seth Prusko came a few points short of providing a doubles sweep, falling in a first-doubles tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-4).

Tsipenyuk made quick work of his third-singles match with a double-bagel victory, followed by Prusko battling back from a set down to earn a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at second singles. Appadoo provided the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-2 win in his fourth singles match, while Crowder and Brown both lost just two games apiece in their singles wins, Crowder 6-2, 6-0 at the fifth flight and Brown 6-0, 6-2 at the sixth flight.

Union will take to the home courts for the first and only time this fall this weekend, when the team hosts the annual Dutchmen Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Union Tennis Courts.
