LOWELL, Mass. –

The UMass Lowell field hockey team continues a five-game homestand, as the River Hawks are set to welcome both Boston University and Merrimack to Wicked Blue Field this week. The squad first squares off against the BU Terriers under the lights on Friday, September 9 at 6 p.m. before taking on Merrimack in the revived Valley Cup on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.

RIVER HAWK REWIND
The River Hawks are currently 2-2 in 2022 after splitting a pair of decisions last week. The squad first took No. 25 Massachusetts all the way to a shootout on Sept. 2, despite falling 3-2. The group quickly rebounded, though, with a 2-1 win against Wagner on Sept. 5.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Senior Berbel Rozema (Rotterdam, Netherlands) and junior Mirthe Gans (Tiel, Netherlands) currently lead the River Hawks with four points apiece. Freshman Isabelle Halters (Noordwijk, Netherlands) adds one goal and one assist for three points. In the cage, junior Eleonore Boekhorst (Bilthoven, Netherlands) totals 20 saves and an .800 save percentage.

VALLEY CUP
Sunday's matchup will mark the field hockey installment of the 2022-23 Valley Cup between UMass Lowell and Merrimack. With Merrimack elevating to Division I, the annual challenge between the two schools has been revived. The Valley Cup will be awarded annually to the university with the most wins in the cumulative season series between River Hawk and Warrior teams.

WEEKLY HONORS
Eleonore Boekhorst was named America East Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 7 for her 10 saves and 1-1 performance in the cage against Massachusetts and Wagner.

THIS IS OUR TURF
The River Hawks own a perfect, 2-0 record at home so far this season.

STARTING STRONG
The decision against LIU on Aug. 28 marked the River Hawks' fifth consecutive shutout in a home opener. It was also the team's sixth straight win in its opener at Wicked Blue.

SHUTTING OUT THE OPPOSITION
With the shutout against LIU on Aug. 28, Eleonore Boekhorst now owns 10 career blank sheets. She holds the program's Division I records for shutouts as a goalkeeper.

HELPING HANDS
Jenna Berger currently boasts 19 career assists, tying the program's Division I record for helpers first set by Christa Doiron (2014-17).

A WIN WOULD
A win against Boston University on Friday would give the River Hawks the lead in the all-time series, which is currently tied at 4-4-2. A win against Merrimack on Sunday, in the first meeting between the teams since 2012, would give UMass Lowell a 25-6 edge in that series.
